Adversity

It was hard to tell but we were dealt some adversity last night in terms of Marshall's shooting and the unbalanced refereeing. We dealt with it masterfully. I'm still hoping we have a few games before the tourney that come down to the last minute.

I guess some adversity. But nothing that ever made any of us think the game was in doubt. I do want to see us successfully close out a couple close games. A game where we have to hit free throws or get some key stops and make some key buckets.

We definitely had to "overcome the adversity on the field" but we didn't have to make plays in the last minute of the game. I love the blowouts, but I think this team needs to see a few more close games.

I'm hoping that the two non-conference losses was enough diversity to build the character needed to get us through the rest of the SEC schedule. Individual players have faced adversity with their injuries, and that can go a long way. A few close games in the conference schedule would help, especially a loss. Losing to Kentucky at Rupp in the final regular game of the season would probably be very good for this team going into the tournaments. Depending on how well we do in the SEC tournament, it might not hurt us in NCAA tournament seeding.

I will take the blow outs everyday. Screw Ky any loss to them would not help this team. The objective is to win regardless of the score.

Playing Ole Miss at home would have been interesting to see.

Yeah I was quite amazed at not only some of the calls last night, but also how late they were called...it seemed like a couple secs went by after the "foul" before a whistle was blown...I actually asked my buddy last night "is a team this good defensively really fouling this many jump shots'? Without replay in the O'Dome, it's hard to tell which calls are correct and which are bad....but either way for the road team to get 21 foul shots to the home team's 3, and the home team still wins by 14, that says something...

No need to worry about having some close games. It will most definitely happen with an L or two.

Adversity has certain advantages, but a lack thereof is a nice situation.

Blowouts are easy to deal with. Close losses much harder.

This team is good enough that they are not very likely to get blown out by anyone (unlike last year, where Ky destroyed that team twice). Thus, the only possible losses will be close ones, like Arizona and K-State.

I don't think adversity itself is the issue. The issue is this team needs some confidence from success in close games, finishing out the final minutes. It would be good to have a go-to player, not floundering in the waning seconds to figure out who should shoot it. E Walk isn't here to jack it up as a default anymore. be it boynton or rosario or wilbekin, it would be nice for one of them to have done it before heading into the tourney.

I agree with you, but I think that there is another element that many are overlooking.. The fact that we don't let teams back into the game is HUGE in my opinion. There were probably about 3 time during the Ole' Miss game that they started to get back within 12-13 points after being down by 20+. The Gators turned it on and ran the score back up to a high margin. Although this isn't the same as "winning a close game", I think it somewhat shows that this team can finish off teams down the stretch if necessary.

Here's a few things we need to happen that we might not want to happen... but in reality, it will help us in the long run.

We need to lose another game or two, we need to win a close game or two.

At the end of the day, these are still 18-20 year olds and they can think their s*** don't stink if we go on some incredible run. We kinda need another reality check and not blow out wins. For tournament's sake, I think we need to lose for a reality check so they don't go into the tourney thinking they are the best team in the country. I want them to go in there hungry and be the hunter, not the hunted.

As a fan, blowing that game at Arizona was enough adversity for me. I hope we kick the can of all of our competition all the way to the NC. No more close games, just beat Everyone by 10 plus.

Boynton has hit a lot of big buckets (and free throws) in close games over his career.

I've got confidence in the rest of the guys also, although I wouldn't be real comfortable with Young at the FT line late needing to hit a couple.

i don't mind not having a go-to guy...i say, you run the offense, let the play develop naturally, whatever comes open on a drive in the paint you take, have confidence the extra dish or pass will find the open man that will nail the shot. if you want to run a particular play that will free up, say KB, than so be it....but alot of that could be done w/ off-ball screening (like the elevator shaft play). i think, you let the play develop, take what the defense gives you and the player shooting will just be reacting and not thinking about it too much which will/should result in his best shot in the flow of the offense.

Well, if you think the officiating against 'Ole Miss was "unbalanced", it's going to mainly be pro-Arkansas tonight @ Arkie.

Whenever our team seems to be riding really high, the SEC refs seem to be bent on making sure we get knocked down a notch.

Adversity? Yeah, we're going to face a good bit of that tonight on the road, or has anyone forgotten the "Fayetteville Fix" back in about 2007 when Arkie went to the foul line over 30 times and UF only 12 or 13 times?

Very worried about this game.
