Ole Miss Game Box Score MVG: Erik Murphy
Erik Murphy's sharp shooting from the 3-point line kept the Gators in a double digit lead throughout the game despite Ole Miss offensive spurts led by offensive wizard Marshall Henderson in a 78-64 win over the the Rebels. Murphy led the Gators in scoring with 19 points in addition to 6 rebounds, 2 assists, 2 blocks and a steal for 87 value credits. Patric Young had an outstanding game battling the Rebel big men. Young had a double-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 2 blocks for 81 value credits. Mike Rosario snuck in at third with 14 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and no turnovers for 67 value credits. Of note was Kenny Boynton's performance, who despite an off night shooting, kept the Gator offense running while dishing out 10 assists for the game.
The sell-out crowd at the Stephen C. O'connell Center got their money's worth as they saw an incredible shooting exhibition by Marshall Henderson (7-11 from 3-point line) and still have their Gators walk away with a 14-point victory. Henderson scored 25 points inspite of tight man defense by Scottie Wilbekin who made Henderson work for every point and forced him into 4 turnovers. The Rebels were able to prevent a blowout by playing a zone defense late in the game on a hot shooting Gators squad that suddenly went cold from the perimeter. The Gator guards then scored enough points with some interior penetration to keep the score well out of reach.
The Gators next take on the Arkansas Razorbacks who have a .500 SEC record but are playing extremely well at home, and currently have an 8-game winning streak at the Bud Walton Arena in Fayetteville.

He was my call for player of the game, but this was another overall team effort to be sure.

I have a feeling we are going to really miss Erik next season. The guy has turned into one heck of a weapon for the Gators.

I found it interesting that Kenny and Scottie were a combined 2-for-14 from beyond the arc...and we beat the 2nd best SEC team by 14. Great TEAM win.

Good point! In most games that would have been glaring in my opinion and could have been the difference in a W or and L. Tonight, however, it was just kind of a footnote. Still we don't like to see many of those nights.

That's what happens when your starting guards get 17 assists against four turnovers. Just plain sick.

I honestly feel like Murphy is the key to our offense. He creates a matchup nightmare for the other teams bigs that creates offensive spacing for the other guys.

fantastic!
was impressed by henderson too. we really did play him tough and he still managed to get those shots to drop - and most were swished.
can't really quite see the effort on tv but boy our guards worked hard thru screens and stuff to keep up w/ marshall.
great night in the o'dome again. love the rowdies and pep band , dazzler's etc efforts along w/ the team too! gator fans seem to be very very appreciative of the team too. there's a great deal of joy & excitement in the stands watching the team play.

I had no idea they shot that bad from the three. I also wounder how many times did we get the rebound or put back as I didn't feel like they were shooting them when they should not have been.

Murphy's shooting is getting almost comical. I didn't feel this comfortable in Humphrey's three-point shot.

For the season Erik is shooting 51.1 percent on treys and in SEC it is over 57 percent. Those are enormous numbers.
He is essentially tied for the best of the country at 51 percent, but not listed on the NCAA site due to his not shooting enough threes. They are only showing players that are averaging 2.5 made per game while Erik is averaging 2.15 per game.

Murphy's NBAs prospects? Could be another of Billy's players to light it up in the NBA.

GatorCountry is the best Gator Sports board, and also the most conservative.

Agreed. Reminds me a little of Turk.

Murphy was 5-6 from 3-point line. The rest of the Gators were 6-23. I think chasing Henderson for 38 minutes may have had something to do with that.
By the way, I ran the numbers for Henderson and his value credit total came out to 70, mostly due to his 25 points and 3 rebounds that were offset by 4 turnovers. The only other Rebel with a substantial value credit score was Holloway with 54. It's remarkable that Ole Miss was even in the game given these were their top performances statistically.

Donovan was subbing players in and out alot during the game. he was trying to keep everyone fresh. alot of energy expended chasing the rebel blackbears around.
kinda reminded me of the 2000 team where BD would hit teams w/ entirely new 'lines' (like in hockey), but last night it was the same players 7 players or so that were subbing in and out for each other. players had to be assuming different roles all night long depending on who was in/out of the game at a given moment. in a way, that's remarkable in itself. there's alot of coaching and preparation involved when you can do that as a team.

I expected one of our guards to ignite and show Henderson up.

Donovan said he is still limited a little in practice and he didn't want to throw him into the deep end just yet.
