Walker might not work hard but he'll certainly ride the bench. With Harris and Finney-Smith, Walker is far from guaranteed anything once he gets here.

I'd bet Billy gets that motor pretty high. He has the body to be a guy that can run up and down the court and beat guys.
Marreese Speights, not known as a particularly hardworker, didn't reach his potential here and hasn't even come close to reaching it in the NBA to this point. But he's one of the few. Not to say I don't like Speights because I do. He's a true Gator.

Speights didn't have the competition Walker will have though. He was basically alone in an undersized frontcourt with a freshman Alex Tyus. Yeguete will also be back next year and Young could very well be also. So he'll have to bring it every day or he won't see the court very much.

For that reason, I really don't see a lot of room for him to be a bust. It might take longer than some think though.

He's going to be really challenged from the minute he steps onto campus. I hope he knows that.

One of the many things I like about Billy is that he never tells recruits that its going to be easy. He tells them quite the opposite.

I'm sure that has cost him a big time recruit from time to time, but I'll take that any day over the alternative.

I do agree the Walker off the bench next year is a possibility and it will be interesting to see how he adjusts to that. Still most analysists would in most years pick the most athletic big like Walker as a likely top overall pick after one year.

The only recruits it will cost you are the ones you don't want in the first place.

The kind of top recruits (or any level) that you want are the ones that will be turned off by pandering and promising. Coaches still doing that are either desperate or behind the times. I believe a lot of current coaches fall into this category.

Insti - there are plenty of cases of kids being high draft picks after limited exposure/not starting. Marvin Williams made sense. Daniel Orton didn't.

NBA still values the potential over actual skill set or fundamentals.

If walker doesn't start but comes in and makes sportscenter top plays every other week he'll be a lottery pick guaranteed.

I too want nothing to do with an elite prospect who has the confidence and desire to play in the NBA. Dangerous.
