Ole Miss is not a very good team. They had won 6 relatively close games in a down SEC prior to last night.
Their two losses were - Away to a decent Middle Tennessee, and, at home, to 14-7 Indiana State. They managed to lose to Indiana State (7-3 in the Missouri Valley Conference, and 14-7 overall).
They are not a very good team, they merely appeared better than they are for a short while. Even in this year's down SEC they will lose between 5 and 7 games before all is said and done.
Kentucky is not a very good team either. They have talent, but simply lack proper balance, and, of course, they also lack experience. The Gators are the class of the SEC by quite a stretch this year, barring several injuries.

Noel's not an offensive threat at all. He's a good rebounder though. Only grabbed 7 last night but averages almost 10 a game.

He's an option on offense, but not near the first. He was ignored (consciously) because no one wanted to watch him fire a line drive off the front of the rim. I love the kid and he's got some great strengths, but touch on the offensive end is not one of them. He's better utilized in the post when WCS is in the game (one of the only good things about playing them together) as it creates more opportunity for put-backs.

Not saying that Ole Miss is any good - I was convinced they basically suck after watching a recap of the Aubrin game - but don't sleep on the Sycamores. After last night they have wins over Miami, Ole Miss and the Shockers. They will be an interesting team to watch.
But Good God we have to keep them off the offensive glass. They had 20 last night (contributing to Ole Miss having more than 50% more shots than UK). I know UK is limited in the paint, but we have to make sure our guards don't release too early and our bigs box out consistently. That having been said, I think Patric will do a great job putting a body on Buckner and/or Holloway (or Popeye's buddy Brutus, lol)...

I'm still not sold that this is a "turning point" game for Kentucky. Mississippi has not impressed me at all this year and Kennedy, as usual, had an absolutely awful gameplan for this game. Luckily for Kentucky, their least talented Calipari-era team exists in one of the worst SECs in recent memory, so they should be able to pick up enough wins to make the NCAAs. Unless they improve much more between now and March, I don't see them making it past the first weekend (obviously depending on the matchup). I don't think Wiltjier will be a difficult contain for an even average defensive team and Poythress still doesn't contribute. Noel is great defensively but if he gets in foul trouble, they have no defensive presence. I think this game more exposed Mississippi (I could honestly see them tanking and missing the dance) than validated that the Wildcats are improving.

the great thing about college basketball is we will all find out soon. Only the layers know if this was a turning point game--I think it was--but Saturday will tell me more!

I still think our toughest game left will be at Kentucky.

My thoughts on last night's game:
Nerlens Noel is a defensive game changer. Smart teams will adjust. Ole Miss is not playing smart ball. One pass and a shot is not an offense. Chuck up a shot contested by Noel and get the rebound if it isn't blocked seemed to be the game plan and it worked pretty well for a while.
Kyle Wiltjer had a nice game, but running the O through him is not a long term solution for UK.

Anyone who drives the lane on Noel when he has established position is a fool. I saw numerous Ole Miss players attempt that last night.

Kind of OT, but will Twany Beckham get a start at Rupp when we play them on Senior Day/Night?

Definitely, as long as he's healthy. He just had back surgury this week and is listed as being "out indifinitely." Don't think it was anything major. Mays will be in the lineup as well, although he starts fairly often anyway.

Judging from what I have seen so far I would agree with you. I am just musing because there is a lot of bb to played yet but it would be a hell of a game if somehow we were to travel to their house with an unblemished league record to protect. Of course it that were to happen they still could take the regular season title since they already have 2 losses but it is an interesting thought. If somehow they were to not lose another game then they should be ranked and the game should draw a lot of national attention.
Just random thoughts I've had.
