Name Your Favorite Player....
We spend most of our time poking fun at the oppenents. But if you had to name a favorite player (past or present) from their program, could/would you? Thought it would be neat to do all SEC teams, but for timesake, let's just say our 3 main current rivals: FSU, TENN, and UGA. I'll start and see how it goes. (The idea for this came to me as I was watching a cooking show with the bride the other night that had Hines Ward on it).
FSU: Warrick Dunn - charitable, class act, professional
UGA: Hines Ward - stand-up guy
TENN: I'm not sure I can name one

Why not Peyton? Maybe Arian Foster minus the meat-eating-vegan BS.

Tenn: would have to be Tee Martin. He took his pounding from Alex Brown like a gentleman.

I get where you're coming from. Maybe "favorite" is the wrong term. Maybe respected. For example, many people loved/respected Tebow when he was at UF, just hated the fact he played against them.

For me:
UF Chris Doering.
The first time I heard his name was in the spring of 90 something when Spurrier said "they couldn't cover him." I could be mistaken but that is the way I remember it. I really like Danny W. as well, especially because he didn't milk the late hits issue at all, he didn't say a word, he didn't undermine his coach, obviously, but he certainly wasn't seeking publicity or sympathy and he could have easily had such an agenda. Great human being after college but I'm still naming Doering as my #1 Gator because as much as I liked Danny he was a real pain in my butt on the field, if you know what I mean.
Doering was skinny, white, and it didn't look to me like he was overly blessed with athletic ability yet he was really, really good. Best pattern runner in O&B ever. You guys can talk amongst yourselves about who was second because he was the best.
A walk-on.
UF didn't want him.
Spurrier didn't think much of him out of high school and didn't even recruit him.
So, the story is, Doering took an unofficial trip to Tally, got there, realized there was no way in hell he could do it and left. His dad was a UF prof so I guess he got a little assistance in some way but even without that it is a great story.
Canes Jerome Brown
JB just symbolizes Cane bad arses to me. I enjoyed watching him play. He was pretty damned intimidating.
Clemson CJ Spiller
He stayed in the ACC. My favorite Tiger but there have been many other.

Never have any rivals I liked while they were playing. there have been a few I have enjoyed watching and wanting to do well while they were in the NFL.
Tenn - Peyton. Don't know why, I just like the guys in the NFL. Call me crazy
Poodles - Hines Ward. I just like the weay he played. Not the biggest, not the fastest but tried to play the hardest. You have to respect that.
CrimiNoles - Charlie Ward and that is only because he played for my Knicks. But, even then when he would do something dumb, I cursed him for being a nole

FSU - Dunn, Brooks & Ward. I'd love to meet any of those guys.
UGA - Herschel. Best college football player I ever saw until Tebow. If on and off the field, pro years included - Jake Scott, safety on the undefeated Dolphins and first defensive Super Bowl MVP
UT - MLB Al Wilson. Really respected his leadership & refusal to lose the 1998(?) game where he forced and recovered a goal line fumble. I liked Jamal Lewis back then, too.

Jag, never read it but that article is stuff that most people on this board from back then knew anyway. Good article. By the way, I still think I could cover Doering and I am equally sure I could cover Travis McGriff but they were both great players for UF and I flat out respect them both.

Even though I'm a diehard Gator fan, my favorite college player all time is Charles Woodson. In the theme of the thread:
Tenn: Peyton Manning is cool. Throw in Al Wilson, he was a beast and stuffed our rushing attack by himself in that '98 upset win for the Vols.
UGA: This one is easy. AJ Green..been a huge fan of his since his first game. Kid was a baller.from the jump
FSU: I hate everything FSU. I'll go with the chicks I would find at the Moon on Saturday nights
