Definitely the 2 and 2, and I'd say that even if it wasn't the Gators who accomplished it.
Funny thing is, with our basketball team this year and the potential our football team will have next year, there is a chance (granted a very very very very slim one) we could do it again.

In today's age, it is 80 million times harder to win the NCAA Tournament Championship than any BCS Championship. What UF accomplished with the 2006 basketball-2006 football-2007 basketball trifecta will NEVER be repeated EVER again by ANY school...EVER! That's like winning the Powerball lottery 3 times in a row...it's never gonna happen again! There is no school in the history of mankind that can claim that accomplishment, as UF is the ONLY school to do that in the history of the world!
And then throw in the 2008 football championship on top of that and it's easy to see why every non-Gator fan wanted to puke seeing the Gators win the 2 biggest college sports over and over. Haha. Love it!
Having said that, it's time to add some more championships to the trophy case!

I agree that it will never be repeated. Even if a school becomes good enough to win titles in both sports, the chances of them peaking in both sports at the same time are very slim.

Yep. Michigan for sure.
Really, there just aren't many programs that field teams in both sports which are regularly competitive for championships.

I don't buy that it is that much harder in bball. I think an argument can be made that it is easier.
With football, you can be the best team but get no shot. In bball you always get the shot. But in your favor is that you have to play everyone and can't just luck into a title game against an inferior team.

Winning the NCAA tournament requires no slip ups...against very good to elite teams.
Winning the football title allows you to conceivably play a weak schedule and win just one big game
Us doing both....is simply amazing today
...and we might be on the verge of doing it again!

Perhaps 2013-14 BB, FB NC 2013-14???
It's not asking too much.
To the OP Dual NCs in a 3 yr period WAY HARDER
BTW LSU and Bama owe UF for 1-2 of their recent titles. If UF had not beatdown OSU in 06 the respect the SEC has not be what it is. Without that LSU with 2 losses does not see the title game and a non conf champ bama team sits home.

Can't blame the State for bragging.
It won't be long though before some Bama fan vandalizes the Auburn logo.

This question has all kinds of room for bias on it:
Gator fans, Bama fans, people who are mainly football fans and don't really care about basketball, people that hate the Gators and people that hate Bama.
There might be some bias involved, but I don't think its that close. If it was only 2 out of 3 for BAMA, it would be 100%. The fact that they won 3 out of 4 is very impressive.
Basketball - Football - Basketball had never been done before and it will never be done again. Add on another Football championship and its the greatest run ever for an Athletic Dept.
There aren't enough teams that compete well in both sports and with players turning pro so quickly, I can't see a team bringing back enough in basketball. Winning a National Championship brings a ton of spotlight and PR and can boost someone to leave early even if they weren't talked about as much before the season.

As in poker, the rarer the hand the more valuable it is, right?
I'll stick with that as long as we're talking about the 2 major college sports.
If it were rare to, say, win golf and gymnastics and lacrosse championships in the same year and someone did it, would it merit a sign on the highway? Not IMHO.

Football so-called championships are mythical/political. So this isn't even a contest.

Winning 2 straight in Basketball is harder than winning 3 in 4 years in Football in and of itself. Winning 3 of 4 requires a ton of Luck- an unprecedented all SEC title game, a team that lost its division playing for a national title, etc- in only one of the 3 years did Bama truly prove it was the best team in America.

This would actually be a tougher question if I wasn't so 100% certain that Alabama both cheats, and gets preferential treatment that aided their current streak from the SEC and pollsters, while UF gets crap from our own league officiating and scheduling gurus but still managed to cram the "never before in the history of college sports" GatorPeat down the NCAA's throat.

Three out of four was done as recently as the 90's.
What UF did has never been done, and has been mentioned, only one other school has multiples in both sports in their history. It's not even remotely close. Even if Alabama fans claim football is more important, they still are only matching what others have done - while all of us would love to have their run right now, it isn't nearly as statistically rare as what UF did.
But for those saying it's a one in a million shot, its not close to that. If you had quality teams in both sports who were 50-1 each( or averaged 50-1) going into the season it's 2500 to 1 to pull the double, if they were 20-1 each it's 400-1 and 10-1 each it's 100 to 1. It will happen again someday, though maybe not in my lifetime (but keep in mind you have to add the odds essentially every year for every team so it's not as high as you would think). But just take next year and OSU or UF or Michigan, all 3 may be ranked top 10 preseason in both sports preseason, and OSU probably would have done it in 2006 had we not beaten them in both. It will happen again, just hope when it does it's either us again or a school I don't hate .
