Transferring To UF from (in)State College?

Hey Im working on my associates at Edison State College and I just wanted to know if anyone has experience or had advice for transferring to UF. I plan to have my Associates within a year and I want to transfer to UF. What are the requirements for students who want to transfer? Whats the best way to go about transferring? Are there any classes that I need to take before I transfer or will I be accepted with my Associates as long as its an accredited college (which it is). Also, is the rule still in place that as long as they have room and I have my associates with a good GPA, they are forced to accept me?

Any information would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I don't know it's hard, I know they cut ties with our local school SCF ( former MCC ) they quit the 2 + 2 program. My advice is have a 3.5 or better, and don't quit. Our local schools only have programs with USF and UCF now.

Did exactly the same thing in 79 when it was ECC. The sooner you know your major, the better. Then you can see the entire class schedule to the bachelor's degree and work backwards on what classes to take at Edison..make sure UF accepts them. Get the toucgh classes done at Edison, like Calc, Chemistry, and the tougher English courses.

Edison has an incredible math and english tutor lab where you can get all the help you need..use it.

1. Decide on a major
2. Determine it's College (school within the university.
3. Identify all prerequisite courses for your major and take them (be careful of titles and course codes)
4. Visit with academic advisor at the College during an off peak time. Bring your transcript. Always document name of advisor and date and time of discussion.
5. Ask what else you need to do

Most importantly get your football ticket request in as soon as you enroll.

UF has an online business program (Bachelor of Science in Business Administration) and I think they will accept almost any "solid" candidate who has the prerequisites and an AA from a Florida school.

There's no difference in the diploma for online students vs. on-campus students, and you can still get football tickets, UF student ID card, etc, and you're not "locked-in" to a rigid, live lecture schedule. And you don't have to relocate to Gainesville, although that could be a negative for people wanting the "full" college experience. That said, you actually could move to Gainesville and still do the online business program at your convenience.

Well my major is going to be Networking Administration, so I need to figure out how that degree transfers and what other classes I'll need. I tried to call the UF number for transfers but they took too long to answer and I was using up long distance minutes lol.

I spoke with AA at my community college several times...still cost me 3/4 of a year because I took courses with the wrong course code. Don't call the UF number for transfers ...call the AA number for the college of your chosen major.

You say you want to major in Network Administration. I am not sure that is an actual major. I think you have 3 possible tracks.

Read up on them and get the chemistry/physics/caluculus out of the way prior to transferring to UF.

I transferred to UF after getting my associates. Find out who your advisor is at your current school and become really good friends with them. I literally had an appointment with my advisor at least every month to make sure I was on track. They should have all the info you need to transfer. Don't try to do it by yourself!! Utilize your resources, makes things a lot easier.

Thanks everyone for all the advice, it sucks that I'll have to do Calculus and stuff but Im ready and willing to get it done!

If you find a subject difficult...take that course before you get to UF. There is little support for those who struggle. There is a math tutoring lab...that might be helpful if you speak the same language as your tutor.

My Calc I Prof in the fabulous sixties was a Chinese "cutie" who spoke very broken English in the basement of Peabody.
