LOL not butt hurt, that isn't the right phrase. Professional reviews are still just opinions like mine. Even if you stripped away all the Star Trek bits and called it "Space Action:The Movie", I still wouldn't have enjoyed it because of the terrible plot
I mean, Nero is angry at Spock for the destruction of Romulus and goes back in time with the express purpose of hurting Spock and sits on his butt for years rather than helping out his own damn planet?!?! No...and that is just one example of the stupid plot.
Okay, I can say nice things...the acting was good and I particular liked Karl Urban as Bones and Simon Pegg as Scotty.
For those that enjoy that movie, fine. Please go on enjoying it, I am not trying to change minds here, people enjoy Twilight too...*burn*

I'm actually pretty comfortable with JJ Abrams doing this, just didn't see him jumping franchises. I think he's a great storyteller. He knows where people's emotional buttons are. Whatever you think of reboot/relaunch, the cold open to his "Star Trek" with the epic Hemsworth and Morrison work is some of the best storytelling/filmmaking done under the "Star Trek" banner. If he can bring that kind of resonance to "Star Wars" again it will be a good thing.
Here's what I am hoping -- SW:TOR may be, barring some book, the last Lucasfilm licensed product while it was still George Lucas' company. As a game, pretty meh. Set long before the films, it wouldn't have any characters movie fans would recognize, but I invite every Star Wars fan ever to watch called "Return", which is one of the opening cinematics setting up the game. It is everything "Star Wars" should be like, and I would love to get some sense that JJ Abrams had seen it and enjoyed it to convince me he's the guy for this job. Bioware may not have made a classic game, but holy crap did they make an epic little mini-movie (the other two trailers are also great).
Which means they accomplished their goal. Personally, I did not care for them, but others loved them.

The difference being that twilight received mostly negative reviews. I think we know that money earned does not necessarily equate to the quality of a film.
I mean otherwise you could use that argument for anything that is popular but you don't like. Teenage girls are just an easy audience to make money on.
That's all well and good, I am not a fan of the decisions to scrap everything and start over but I can understand some people might find it engaging.
So many plot holes that others have brought up ruined any chance of me liking it, and I am the type of person that can handle a few plot holes if the movie is good enough. I went in with an open mind and nearly walked out before it was over.
Back on Star Wars topic, I wanted Joss Whedon to have a crack at directing.
Question gun: Which Star Trek movie was your favorite?

Hmmm, favorite? That is a tough choice. I think the best of all the movies are:
Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, Undiscovered Country, and First Contact.
The movies have always been a mixed bag and also included some revision like in Wrath of Khan changing the back story from the TOS, but that movie is so good with Shatner's excellent over acting and the emotional Spock ending.

That's one thing that makes William Shatner such a great actor - he can over-act and make it look good/unique.
Lucas sold the franchise but will consult on the movies. The guy who wrote Toy Story 3 is writing the Star Wars 7 script and has a basic outline for 7-9 already written up.
So corp, you still feeling confident? I mean, I can't be as bad as the prequels.
Which are bad, but after a few marathons I can enjoy them. Also have you guys heard about this way to watch the Star Wars movies especially for people that haven't seen any of them.

You watch, 4-5-2-3-6. You can skip 1 completely because there really isn't anything missed and this order maintains all the major reveals. Thoughts?
Heard of that viewing order but never the name and totally agree if you are introducing someone to the movies for the first time its the way to go. It preserves one of the iconic moments in cinema. I still want to see the fan recuts of the Phantom Menace where they cut out all the cutesie kid stuff and you end up with a decent enough story. No jar jar and no pod racing would make a huge difference in itself.

Yeah I think everyone felt that as he got more into the technology end of things he just got worse with the actors. When even good actors look bad in your movies it doesnt say much about the writer/director.
I'm feeling confident. I've completely denounced the prequels and don't plan to ever watch them before unless I find a hidef fan edit that's good. There are edits that put all the films into one 2 hour film and cut the junk, but I haven't seen one yet.
There's no way Disney can do worse than the prequels and with their track record, I'm hopefully optimistic that they will come somewhat close to the originals.
