Accepted an early action admission to UNC Friday afternoon. Was hoping she'd at least wait for UFs decision in a couple of weeks so I could lobby longer but she's fallen in love with Chapel Hill. Out of state for both so there's no economic difference. Guess I need to learn how to say Go Heels too.
Anyone else here with a kid at UNC?

I love my alma mater, UF, as much as anyone, but... objectively better university. Just don't let her forsake the Gators entirely.

Yeah, not entirely a bad thing especially if you're in state within NC. It's a great bargain for in staters.

I have a niece who has visited there and Loved the campus. Keep giving her gator stuff to wear. I have a daughter who goes to Middle Tenn St. and grew up a huge Gator fan. Her boyfriend plays basketball for MTSU and when they played earlier in the year, she texted me "GO Gators" at tip off.

Agreed. I'm thrilled for her. Top 5 public university. Beautiful campus and part of the world. RDU is experiencing another economic boom and NC is a state that we can retire to someday. Lots to be happy about.

I do business with that school and I agree that it is a beautiful campus. The whole area is fantastic, actually. Raleigh is a fine town and Durham has some excellent restaurants and an outstanding performing arts center.

Congrats North. A great school indeed. Be proud and look forward to retiring there someday. That's where the wife and I want to retire and we have no connections there at all: it's just a great place to live and a sports fanatics dream!

Time for you to become a college basketball fan and forget about football.

My daughter graduated from there in 2011. Same situation. She got into Florida and UNC among other schools, but fell in love with Chapel Hill. Your daughter is going to love it there. It goes so quickly. She's in grad school now at American.

No brainer. My daughter almost applied, but already had enough reach schools on her list and knew that as an out of state student, she was a long shot. She didn't even consider UF.

Nothing wrong with her going to UNC. Great school.
Look at it this way: it's not FSU or UGAg

North, your daughter is going to love Chapel Hill. UNC is a better school than UF, although I hate to admit this about by Alama Mater. I have had many friends that have had kids at UNC. Can't think of one that is disappointed. There are all sorts of things to do in the Raleigh-Durham area and the some of the best winter slopes in NC are only a little over three hours way, Congrats on her acceptance. You may want to invest in a summer vacation home here at the beach in Wilmington. Good luck.

Great school, Beautiful campus, congrats. At least it is not Duke or UGA and there will be no conflicts with Gator sports. Unfortunately, you may now be getting a bunch of wussy looking sweatshirts to wear. My neighbor is a Heel.
As for the comparison to UF, UNC has always been ranked a little higher, but not a big difference academically IMO. My son considered UNC and ga tech before choosing UF. All very good schools.

Florida is now "in the conversation" with UNC@CH but...They are definitely more recognized as a higher institution of learning. It helps that the Raleigh business complex is in close proximity. One of the things that affects UF, in some regard, it isn't in a bigger city with a lot of pull, research jobs, technology and tons of money and corporations surrounding it. But, we're getting there. The old hospital (AG) space/development is attempting to create a mini-technology center, aren't they? Don't get to Gainesberg that much these days.
