Steve Russell....
Anyone listen to this guy? I hate to make fun of people, especially gators... But this guy reminds me of the "good morning, Vietnam" guy. NOT robin Williams. I'm talking about the guy that thinks he's funny and keeps getting pissed at robin. (His superior)
Anyway, Russell reminds me of that guy. Not in appearance, obviously. But in how terrible he is. Vettel, on the other hand, is enjoyable to listen to. Any Russell fans in here?

I think Vettel, Russell and Chuck Cooperstein all graduated with degrees in broadcasting/communications from UF at the same time. Russell is the hardest to listen to of the trio.

Steve's son's name is Drew.
Larry is the most knowledgeable of the two and by far the most professional.
Steve has developed an overly exaggerated style like a poor man's Howard Cossell where everything he says is this big important pronouncement then he repeats it for added emphasis. Ugh. He used to get into arguments with certain callers and if he posted on these boards back then he read a lot of criticism about himself. He has toned it down. I'm sure the powers that be had a talk with him, he was not in control.
Where can you listen to Cooperstein? He's not on locally is he?

Chuck is out in Texas. He's the voice (play by play guy) of the Dallas Mavericks and does Big 12 football broadcasts.

I like them both. I think they both are very knowledgeable. You should be thankful there is such a plethora of local talent in Gainesville. I live in Tallahassee and there isn't much local sports talk I want to listen to out here. There's only 1 local show I can even think of, and it's not good. Gainesville has 5 daily sports talk shows.

I lived in Dallas for seven years when Cooperstein was there and he is at least on par with Russell in the wrong way.

Always been a fan of Larry. He's not Bob Costas by any means, but he knows the Gators and has become part of the family.

Having had to endure Brady Ackerman and something called an oil can, I enjoyed Steve Russell when they made the switch. That could be a testament to how bad Brady and oil can were. I like Scott Brantley and Doering is hit or miss but I still find the show hard to listen to because of oil can.
I grew up on Larry and continue to love the guy

I think I just wish there was a more regional focus sometimes. I think it's kind of wonky when local sports talk tries to be national when there is a big Gator Game coming up. I understand you are limited locally and have to address national items at times. But too many times I will be listening and it will be on a Thursday of a game week and the theme of the show will be some NFL topic or golf.
It's a matter of knowing your bread and butter and sticking with it even if it is overkill. For instance, not nearly enough recruiting news on either of those shows right now. They should be covering recruiting hard and breaking stories.
