Fortunately, Abrams can't make the Star Wars universe worse than the prequels already did.

You're not wrong about his Trek movie, but it was an alternate timeline, so Spock's betrothal would not necessarily be relevant. Here's just a small list of why the movie sucked:
--Abrams already did that red matter plot point in the tv show Alias.
--The Romulan ship goes back in time because Romulus is destroyed. And then sits and waits in the same spot for 25 years until old Spock arrives?
--Enterprise warps to Vulcan and arrives there in seconds. But the ride back to earth takes days.
--Enterprise somehow passes the Romulan ship headed to earth and waits to ambush it by Saturn.
--Too many similarities to Star Wars series--ice planet, battle with snow monster in/near a cave, Scotty's Ewok.
--A Romulan mining ship from Picard's era has enough firepower to destroy the entire fleet from Kirk's era?
--Cadets had to go fight because entire fleet was off doing something else in the same area. Unless it was a Klingon or Borg attack, this makes no sense.
--No matter what the disagreement, one Starfleet officer wouldn't exile another by spacepod. He'd just be thrown in the brig for disciplinary procedures.

Are we talking about a new Star Wars movie or a Star Trek movie?
And if it's a Star Wars movie, did George Lucas write it or did someone else write it?

Totally agree about the invincibility of the Romulan mining ship. I have a long list of things why Abrams' Trek sucked, and that one doesn't make the first cut. I do remember making the joke after watching the movie that if your choice of a fight is between three Klingon Birds of Prey, a Borg Cube, several Ferengi ships, and a Romulan mining ship, avoid the mining ship at all costs!
As for the alternate timeline, Spocks' marriage was arranged from childhood. I just didn't buy that the Romulan ship's appearance would have changed Spock's life significantly up to the point where old Spock appears, meaning the current, young Spock would have still been married. If the Romulan mining ship lies in wait 25 years and doesn't interfere with anything, the timeline up to the point it does get involved wouldn't have changed significantly, if at all up to that point.
Oh, another gripe was with Leonard Nemoy himself. During his entire screen time I felt Nemoy had this smugness about him aimed at William Shatner for the fact that Nemoy was in the latest Trek movie, and Shatner was not. Maybe I read into Nemoy's performance too much, but I thought it came through loud and clear.

The new Star Wars movie will be directed by the writer and director of the last Star Trek movie.
And other than possibly using his template for the final 3 movies, Lucas will have no involvement. He sold the franchise to Disney.

The latest Star Trek Movie was by far the best one ever made.
The story, the action, the plot and the actors all rocked it.

The plot was moronic (as I outlined above) and it turned one of the most thoughtful sci fi series ever filmed into 'Transformers in Space.'

Different strokes.............. I thought it was quite entertaining, funny and filled with action packed scenes. Although, I can see where a purist (Trekkie/Trekker) would find it distasteful - I do like the first two renditions of the Star Trek sagas.

Yeah, it's nice to see any Trek stuff being made. The one coming out this summer looks interesting from the previews.

Yeah, because Lucas' writing and directing were so stellar. Ewoks and Jar Jar Binks --- BLECH.
Is it any wonder that the best of the six movies was Empire? The only movie Lucas did NOT direct?

Really? Same actors I presume? I'll have to find the trailer and watch it. Never mind all I could see was a "teaser" ad.

I've watched all of the Star Treks all the way back to when the first episode came on TV and I loved JJ's Star Trek. I thought he did a great job.

I was glad to read this thread and see that some agree that Jar Jar Abrams' Star Trek movie was awful.
I think he is a terrible director period. We can look forward:
Lens Flare
Nonsensical plot
Lens Flare
Action scenes for no reason

Haha, sorry. I just hate what he did to Star Trek, I have been passionate about the series for a long time.
I also love Star Wars, maybe there is hope though because I have read he is a huge fan of Star Wars.
Maybe he will have enough dedication to the original movies to not mess up the whole universe (no pun intended) and give us something that is true to the core of the series.
....lens flare.

Well at least we won't be getting a reboot. It seems that has a lot to do with the issues trek fans have.

Most folks I know liked the Star Trek movie. A matter of tastes I guess.
