it's really quite a system. gerrymander the districts so that even though Democrats get more votes, Republicans win more congressional seats. Then change the rules so that even if the Democrat gets more votes and wins more states, the Republican will win because he'll win more of the congressional districts.

Hello.....How do you think she got re-elected? OK, I know I'll have to spell it out for you....Gerrymandering
Yes. A Republican legislature created a district that was a sure win for a black candidate, but pulled large numbers of black voters out of all the surrounding districts to greatly increase there chances.
That is classic gerrymandering.
A Republican majority legislature did it. When Proposition 6 to stop gerrymandering was before the voters, Democrats supported it, Republicans opposed it. It passed easily, but when Scott took office, he also tried to stop it.
That doesn't exactly fall into the category of "Democrats do it, too ...."
Now, tell me how the Democrats tried to change longstand ways we elect our president in order to give themselves a better chance of winning.

You either don't pay attention or just refuse to see reality

Democrats' revenge in 2012: a radical Illinois gerrymander
What's worse is how they passed the accompanying gerrymandering bill, the senate in VA is split 20-20. On inauguration day, one black democrat went to dc for the inaugural, so on that day they held they brought the bill up, had the vote and passed it 20-19.
I have been vocal about gerrymandering, but this is dangerous on both sides. My hope is that if it ever passes a state that the USSC squashes it under the voting rights act, but if not, it's just one more step towards a banana republic. Had a similar law been in place in every state in the last election, Romney would have carried 280 EVs, despite losing the election by 5 million of votes. And while that may excite some here, wait until it happens the other way and see how fair or democratic you think it is. We are perverting the idea of democracy with laws like this.
I think all states should change to the Maine/ Nebraska model- which I believe is the proposal in VA. (I didn't read the article but I read something similar this AM.) We would again have a nationwide race instead of the whole election being deciding by a few swing states. From a statistical perspective- it's ridiculous that 25+ EC votes can come down to a 1000 votes in a state.
As far as VA goes- this could just as easily hurt the R's as the D's. Obama won it twice but it was red before that. It could easily change back with the right candidate and if that happened then this would help the Democrats.
So once I show you that democrats also gerrymander you want to change the topic to the president? Gerrymandering is all about keeping the poswer you already have by keeping your job.

You might want to go back and read what the subject of the thread is. (Hint: It's how we elect the president.)
That my point, gerrymandering has nothing to do with electing a president. It's strictly about people keeping their jobs and has been around a long long time. Somehow you want to pretend this is something exclusive to republicans or at least that's how you come across.

the subject is changing the way we elect a president. you said democrats do it too, and presented corrine brown. i explained she had nothing to with it. so you presented a story about democrats gerrymandering in Illinois. i asked what that had to with the way we elect a president, and you accused me of changing the subject.

Actually, the subject is, "If you can't win, change the rules." The example given by the OP was about the EC. 07732's gave an example of the same "rules change" for a different election so...I'll allow it.
