Thank God Tebow was smarter than a rock. Admissions could have potentially sent the Messiah to Alabama.

How much smarter than a rock? He had an excellent GPA but his two part SAT score was in the mid to high 900 range. If he hadn't been a football prospect, his application to UF wouldn't have made it past the front desk. That's what made Tim so great. He was always about determination, digging in to give 200% of what was inside of him. Not only did he become a great football player at UF, he was an honor student as well.
FWIW, Rex Grossman scored over a 1400, but I don't think he left UF with more than a 3.0. He was a great one, but he was not about determination. I think everyone else in his family is a med school grad.

Strange, you're stuck on his SAT score, but I'm pretty sure he took it his so. year of hs and never took it again once he had a passing score.

I can't say that I've ever heard of a "passing" SAT score before...

His dad is an optometrist if I remember correctly. One of my relatives in Indiana was a patient of his.

Rex's sister was in med school at Northwestern while Rex was playing for UF. She used to watch games with the local Gator Club.

Not likely during his sophomore year. That's when you would typically take the PSAT. It's more likely that he took SAT early in his junior year. Whenever he took it, he should have known better than to think a 960 or 980 was adequate at that stage in his education. If he'd had a career ending injury, his college options would have been very limited. Smart kids take it every cycle, or until they get a perfect score.
FWIW, my son took the SAT his freshman year because it was required for the application to the Illinois Math and Science Academy. He scored just over a 1300. Not a fair comparison since he's a freak. Got a 35 on his first and only attempt at the ACT, but can barely tie his shoes. Would have made the deans list this past semester at college, but forgot to turn in his lab reports in chemistry the last six weeks, then showed up for the final the day after it was given. In purely practical terms, Tim is a lot smarter.
Only reason I fixate on standardized test scores is because they are the equalizers. GPAs reflect achievement relative to a small, fixed population in an isolated academic setting. SATs and ACTs measure aptitude "objectively" across a broader population. There are high school systems that give out perfect grades, but don't challenge them enough to excel on ACT/SAT or AP tests. My brother has taught AP history for two years and has yet to have a student score higher than a three.
There are definitely issues with the standardized test system and their undue influence in the college admissions process, especially at the high end, but they are very helpful in identifying students with deficiencies that would make it difficult to succeed in college.

Zach A says Durkin called Hearns and told James they couldn't take him with his grades.

Sadface.
Was really hoping he could get his grades up. Mad props for throwing a gator chomp and getting kicked out of that FSUcks camp.
I, for one, hope he checks out Lousville. With a couple of commitments from Hearns and Hatcher, that D will look more nasty.

Could he not enroll in Spring of '14 and get his grades right over the summer/fall?

He'd have to go JUCO for a year... but it would be a lot easier for him to go to a school that would accept his current scores. Lousville isn't bad, Strong is there to stay for awhile... with that huge new contract. He could also easily go to Marshall, WVa, USF, etc.
edit: Also, Kentucky is standing out for him with Stoops being there now.

Amazing to me how these kids can squander a top flight college chance to play football because of issues with grades.
