Default Gators' efficiency rating through the roof

Chris Harry on Gatorzone writes about Gasaway's Tuesday Truth column yesterday:

Quote:
ATHENS, Ga. -- John Gasaway is a college basketball numbers cruncher -- and, boy, did he crunch some digits in favor of the Florida Gators in his weekly version of “Tuesday Truths.”

The trendy metric in roundball these days is points per possession. It’s broken down on both offense and defense. The difference between the two -- points-for minus points-against -- is what Gasaway calls “Efficiency Margin.”

I worry about this stuff - the SEC is so weak this year, I think we'll have to wait until the tournament to see how good we are even with wins against MTSU (rpi 37), Marquette (20) & Missouri (20).

Don't forget about Wisconsin and a good showing on the road at Arizona. These statistics obviously aren't saying we are better than everyone else on both ends of the court. What they tell me is that we are absolutely dominating whoever we do play. Unfortunately, we are restricted by a down SEC. We tried to compensate for that with tougher non-conference slate. At any rate, we are playing very well, which the statistics and the eye bear out. Hopefully we can keep it up.

What most interests me is that those efficiency ratings come with the season slightly more than half over and what is likely the most difficult half completed, and with a team that has been fighting injuries in very nearly every game.

I mean, think how good this team might be if it were ever healthy. Think how good Wilbekin might be without having a broken finger.
