I remember you mentioning that CWM has done a good job of identifying plan B and C guys for this class. Do you think we fill the remaining 6 or so slots?
I just read that about an hour ago...smh. Other than obvious playing time I just don't see the interest in Ole Miss. No disrespect, but besides being from that state why would top prospects choose the bottom tier of the SEC when you have offers from far better programs at the top of the SEC academically and athletically??

I would explain it but if I do will you try to get it or just dismiss it?
Has anyone got an update from Jalen Ramsey's official To USCw? I'd love for us to add another CB because VH3 is the only one we have, and after 2013 we could lose Roberson and Purifoy to the draft.

I have no clue at this point in time a few guys I thought Florida might get finally decided to pull the trigger to other schools instead of wait. Florida lost Daniel to grades and maybe will lose Swanson. And Timmons and Clark's recruitment became larger than life. Quinn leaving doesn't help with Bowers or Reed either.
1. Freeze is a very good recruiter
2. coincident, kids like Robert N and Treadwell had friends and family at Ole Miss
3. They treat football players there like Kings, those recruits go to a Bball game they will get multiple name chants
4 Location does matter some kids want to stay home (Conners schools is Ole Miss pipe line)
5 playing time is available and the program is on the rise
6 Freeze is a very good recruiter
7. Mississippi has very good JUCO programs that Ole Miss has connections with
8 Freeze is a very good recruiter
9 academics Hooks couldnt get into Auburn because of one class but he could get into Ole Miss (think his girlfriend might go to Ole miss as well) Daniel could not get into Florida but Ole miss is willing to take the shot he qualifies

Understood. I knew about Freeze being a good recruiter and about RN's brother and Treadwell's friend. You're absolutely right about the JUCOs in Mississippi. Kids from FL go to those JUCOs quite often I happen to know a few such as Legarrete Blount who took the JUCO route. Wish FL legislature would stop the BS and allow FL to have a few JUCO football teams.
In 2014 target news Michigan OT commit Denzel Ward has transferred to the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He took a visit to Florida earlier in the month
Given that it looks like at this point that we are not going to fill all of the remaining spots with guys we REALLY like, any chance Ira Denson finally gets his chance to flip? I would be quite pleased, to get a good player and screw FSU all in one transaction.
AZ - I think I remember you indicating before that Ira could not pull well enough for our offense. If I am remembering that correctly, was that from first hand knowledge from watching tape, or from someone on the staff, or some other source? That would seem to contradict the opinion offered by Rivals in the following quote:
"Also, a few offensive linemen and two quarterbacks made nice moves in the Rivals100. Offensive guard Ira Denson from Madison (Fla.) Madison County moved up 25 spots to No. 55 while fellow guard Brendan Mahon rose 81 slots to No. 58 in the country.
"Denson is one the best run-blockers at the guard position. He pulls and traps very well for a guy his size, and as a drive blocker he displays good hand placement and power. He finishes blocks and is always driving his opponent backward," Codrington said of the Florida State commitment. "He can reach the second level and sustain blocks against quicker linebackers. He will need to watch his body weight and improve as a pass blocker, but his aggressiveness and tenacity will keep him on the field at the next level.""
I think he can run block and get to the second level but I disagree on the pulling. You have to wonder why Ira cant go anywhere but FSU, maybe its the feet, maybe its the grades and maybe its the weight. He is fat right now and I dont like taking kids who need to lose weight JMO though. Motown why do you think the staff keeps giving Ira the cold shoulder?
I dont think its a bad idea to give Ira a spot if the staff thinks he is worth one.

We might give him a spot because we're in a plan b phase right now and determined to use every ship. He can thank Daniel and possibly Hearns for not making grades and Clark for not making up his mind.

Don't get me wrong AZ...I wasn't denigrating your opinion, I was just curious where it came from. I know you must watch a ton of tape, but I know the guys at Rivals do too, so I am sure it is just a matter of beauty being in the eye of the beholder. And I agree 150% with you on guys who are overweight coming out of high school, they scare the crap out of me. My protype OT coming out of HS is 6'6" and 275 with a frame that can carry 310. My prototype OG would be 6'4" or taller and 270 with a frame that can carry 315. I would much rather we put the weight on them the right way from the get-go.
But 2 more things to consider...if we are confident in our strength and conditioning program (and I think we should be), then we should be be confident in our ability to take some baby fat off Ira or any other recruits. (That being said, I can recall too many quys eating themselves out of a promising career, Scott Joslyn and Elijah Brown to name a couple of examples.) Secondly, given the state of our offense right now, it would seem to me that a run-blocking mauler should be a pretty valuable commodity.
As far as why our staff has been reluctant to take him, I have zero inside info. While I understand the coaches get paid ALOT of money to make these decisions, and I generally trust the decisions of the staff, I don't think they are infallible. There have been plenty of takes over the years that I knew would never contribute on the field, and they didn't, and there have been plenty of guys I wished we would have gone after who became stars for someone else.
But I have learned in the 25 years I have followed Gator recruiting that we won't get them all and we won't be right 100% of the time because no one does or is!
Motown I didnt take offense to anthing you said. Motown the Rivals guys watch way more tape than I do especially on Ira I think I watched some 3 min vid and came to the conclusion that I didnt care where Ira went (didnt even try to find a game of his). People forget he moved up because of camps not his tape. My thing is if a kid shines at a camp go back and look at his tape. If his tape is still bad then he is what he is. I dont remember Ira's being that bad just you could see he was a little stiff in the lower body and with the added weight it would not be a good combo.
I think its telling that Ira wants to take visits but he never goes on them because the other college ends up saying stay at home.
I dont doubt the S & C staff. What I do doubt is Ira's work ethic. He slimmed down to get a scholarship then after proceeded to eat again.
I agree with you on the staff making mistakes I felt they made a few last year (one is already gone) and I think they made at least one this cycle.
Ira has the ability to be a very good football player just not sure if he fit in Florida's offense. It looks like Florida will have a open spot for him it comes down to the question does the staff believe he can contribute in the future.

I'm not sure this staff is into recruiting players who they perceive to have disciplinary issues. They've never seemed interested in heavily recruiting Denson. I have no idea what the real reason is behind that, but you pointed out two things that can turn a guy like Muschamp off: not being able to maintain his weight, and also potentially having grade problems. Those are signs of somebody who could potentially have disciplinary issues.
I think Muschamp is a blue-collar guy, and is shaping a mentality around Gator football that is quite different than the approach Meyer had. It seems that they (Muschamp and his crew) want guys who come in ready to work. I don't think Muschamp is the kind of guy who's into fixing another player's problems; he and his people want workers. Guys willing and eager to learn. Guys with character. We'll see if that brings in two national championships.
I don't know Denson at all. I'm throwing nothing but pure speculation into this topic, but it's telling that this staff doesn't seem interested at all in making Denson a priority. There has to be a reason behind blowing off a guy many believe to be one of the best at his position in the country...
NoahBeanBizzel I just think the staff feels he is not that good. The two highly rated OG that wanted in the class the staff said no to. Ira Denson and Tyrone Crowder. Crowder actually has good tape but he is 5'11 and fat. I dont know how you can rate a guy that high when he is short.
It still would not shock me if Ira ended up in this class
