CBS: Missouri's Haith faces NCAA notice

"The NCAA is expected to release a notice of allegations as early as this week regarding the Miami investigation. A source close to the situation told CBSSports.com that former Hurricanes and current Missouri basketball coach Frank Haith is expected to be charged with unethical conduct and failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance."

That sucks since he seemed to have Missouri playing well enough to be ranked & the SEC needs as many good teams as possible.

Based on what you said it could have been anything from bad coffee to a death in the family.

Don't see why this should cost him his job. Pretty common knowledge in S Fla that the cane basketball program was always part of the investigation. Can't believe Mizzou didn't know what they were getting. If not, they need a new AD also.

According to the linked article he may be hit with a "show cause penalty." If this happens the school will have little choice but to let him go.

Definition: The "Show Cause" penalty is perhaps the harshest in the NCAA's arsenal, as it essentially prevents a person from working in college basketball.

A show cause penalty -- usually with set duration -- may be handed down for a variety of reasons, but is most often used for coaches who commit NCAA violations relating to recruiting. For example, ex-Indiana coach was hit with a five-year show cause penalty stemming from improper phone calls made to recruits, and Ohio State coach Jim O'Brien faced the same penalty after making an under-the-table payment to a recruit.

Any school wishing to hire a coach under a "show cause" designation must appear before the NCAA infractions committee and potentially face new sanctions. No Division I athletic director has ever taken that step. As such, "show cause" usually amounts to a total ban from working at the college level for the duration of the penalty.

For example, California coach Todd Bozeman was hit with an eight-year show cause penalty stemming from improper payments made to the family of one of his players. Ten years elapsed before Bozeman was able to find a job at the college level -- he's currently the head coach at Morgan State.

I noticed during our game that Haith seemed completely dissconnected to the game. I don't recall him ever doing any coaching, every camera shot was him sitting on the bench. Even during the long delay with the refs at the table, his players were seen talking, but Haith was not in view.

I guess he was thinking of bigger problems than being down by 20.
