It appears that you even agree with that point of view, since your first reaction was to call for his prosecution.

That clearly is not a concealed weapon.

Again, I have provided three separate descriptions of Virginia state law, and all three of them either explicitly state members of the Assembly and anybody with a Concealed Carry permit are allowed to carry within the State Capitol or do not include the State Capitol on a list of places in which Concealed Carry is not permitted.
I agree it is an insane law. So you should probably join this man in calling for a change in that law.

From the Virginia firearms code: Prohibited places include courthouses, air carrier terminals, schools, Capitol and General Assembly buildings (open carrying only, members of the General Assembly and those with a valid CHP are permitted in the Capitol General Assembly buildings) Looks like the legislator is legal. He is however still stupid for the way he is holding the rifle.

Virginia is an open carry state and has a "shall issue" law for concealed carry. Good for them.

Yeah, after all just the act of doing something legal with a gun in that state made you scream for his prosecution.
Your initial reactions (Prosecute him for breaking the law! followed by vehement denials of the law in Virginia) demonstrated the insanity of their law as it currently stands. Unless, of course, you just call for tyrannical prosecution of anybody that disagree with you. And I have no reason to believe that.

Insofar as this gentleman? advocates for the demonization of semiautomatic weapons and demands their banning from the people, he deserves the title of demagogic, dunderheaded doogooder. But I digress from the OP.

The state capitol isn't federal government property.

Well I have to say I stand corrected and would have never thought. He carried the rifle under the Rules of the Legislature which prohibit firearms in the Capitol. Exceptions are: 1) Those who possess a Concealed Handgun Permit; 2) Members of the Legislature; 3) Law enforcement officers.
I should have researched this more before posting so my apologies to that point.
So he obviously used this to carry on his dog and pony show. As for Md saying we should stand with him to change the law....good try
This was more about a guy that wants to take away peoples right in the sate of VA and not about the legislature rules, although this is a god example of elitism of law makers.

Lots of people have twenty and thirty shot clips already. So many, you can't afford to put all in jail.
The mentaly ill kid who stole the gun, did not get the weapon through a legal sale. Yet, that is who they go after.
In other words, this has nothing to do with the event, it is the excuse to go after guns, and we all know that won't end well for the side trying to take them.
When a crazy kid drives a car into a kindergarden, the rest of us will then be on foot.

Law abiding citizens will follow any gun law. But do you know what a criminal is, he is someone who breaks the law.
A law abiding citizen would not randomly kill people, the mentally unstable and the criminal will and they don't care about the law.
For the lawmakers and beleding hearts to strut around and think they have accomplished something when a law is passed is bs. You must go to the root cause that is causing violence and sitting around talking about it and passing useless laws will not solve it.

I would like to know since when anyone with a conceal carry license can go on federal property with a gun... Maybe that's changed because they're elite and not the common folks like us.

I just wish the anti gun people would move to one part of the country like Chicago so they can live their fantasy with a gun free enviroment and don't have to worry about being robbed or shot and leave the rest of us LAC's alone

Ditto, my hat's off to Virginia. I'll admit I'm only familiar with Fl Concealed Carry laws, since that's where I have one.

Seriously?
How many times has that been clarified on this thread? It was not federal government property but rather the property of the state government of Virginia?

So you think he should be able to carry that gun anywhere in the state? Why was your first instinct to prosecute him then? Or do you just want to prosecute all of your political opponents? The laws in question here aren't legislature rules but rather the gun laws of the state of Virginia.

Read the thread. You wouldn't have to assume if you read the thread, on which it was mentioned 8 separate times that we were discussing the state capitol in Virginia, not the federal capitol.
