I have a mechanical engineering undergrad degree from UF with a master's in petroleum engineering from Texas and the master's was double the workload. My GPA was higher in grad but the quantity of work was not even close to comparable.
I don't quite know why the admissions board wouldn't make the exception if the kid is well behaved. What is the risk for one or two? The school's reputation is not at stake if they are expected to be good humans even if the kid fails out. The cost of the kid can't be that much higher than the other athletes and you will have 85 schollies regardless. What can the differential cost of one guy be? Couple grand a semester?
