He's probably talking about a former assistant. It was claimed Rick Pitino Jr. was the source of the leak.

I don't have the link or even remember the source, but it was Pitino. Don't know if something like that can ever be proven, but after that the attack against Kentucky and Calipari was on.

And I remember how some Kentucky fans went after Donovan since they thought he was the leak. I just saw the discussion about this on Catpause, and I was wondering if we finally got some evidence on who it was.

Sorry I don't have a link for it. Matt Jones (kentuckysportsradio blog) said this on his radio show a few days ago. If its a matter of you wanting to find the exact wording, I'm sure I could find the podcast. I wasn't pointing this out as fact, just as something that is being reported.

I've heard a number of different rumors about this over the past few years and every single one of them name Pitino. I'm not quick to believe rumors, but I don't doubt this one. I haven't heard anyone allude to Donovan or anyone else on his staff or make any connection to the significance of Florida other than it happening to be where Pitino was at the time. There's literally no excuse for doing something so unethical as a coach.

Those would have to be some pretty dense Kentucky fans to assume Donovan when it was well known that Pitino was on staff (obviously they exist). I cant believe anyone would assume that. My assumption has always been that this is the kind of thing that Richard could have easily done without Donovan knowing.

Matt Jones is just a UK fan that managed to get his own show. I have no idea if it was Richard Pitino. I'm not a big fan of Little Richard so I don't care but Matt Jones is not at all credible as a reporter.

I can't prove that he is credible, but if he's not, he's one hell of a prognosticator. He recently was the only UK media member to get the football hiring right (he's been right on many other occasions as well). He's got good sources. Some people don't like him, but I think he's very credible (also happens to be complimentary of Florida basketball). He started out as a fan and lawyer, but now has the most visited college basketball blog on the internet, the most popular kentucky sports radio show in the state and does the official pre and post games for UK's radio affiliate. I don't always agree with him, but I'm not sure "fan who managed to get his own show" is very accurate at this point.

Was Matt Jones credible when he said Cal was a dirty coach? If he has evidence that Cal is a dirty coach or that a UF assistant leaked Bledsoe's transcripts he should provide the evidence. Otherwise, he is just repeating rumors that he hears.

He's explained that till he's blue in the face. Is it that hard to accept that Pitino did this? Try and discredit the source all you want, but he's right all the time - so much so recently that some attack him saying he gets his info straight from the university and is becoming a mouthpiece. There honestly isn't much difference between sources and passing along rumors one hears. If the sources produce rumors that prove to be substantive (which they have over and over again - far moreso than UK beat writers), then the guy has good sources.

Keep in mind, I have no dog in this fight. I am a UK fan who wants UK information. I don't care who I get it from. From most accounts, Jones is a fairly abrasive, arogant person. I also don't agree with his political views and can't stand how often he brings them up. There's zero reason for me to support/defend him in any way. There are other UK writers I like. I just want the best/most accurate info out there and, right now, he's got it more often than not. I also do'nt care who leaked Bledsoe's transcripts. An assistant coach did - whether it was Pitino Jr or not. Do I have some agenda that needs to be met for it to have been a Florida assistant or Pitino's son that leaked it? No. I am one of the few UK fans who still likes Pitino (not just respects what he did at UK). I'd take him back at UK (although I'm not a fan of some aspects of his approach).

No problem REM. I just remember when this happened, all the different rumors that were spreading, so I was very interested to see if the case was solved. Correct me if I was wrong, but was there a rumor it was Memphis so they could get back at Cal?

There was a Memphis rumor for sure. It was that Glenn Cyprien (former UK assistant under Billy G and then assistant under Pastner) did it out of spite for his old boss getting fired at UK. Some speculated that Pastner himself was the source and that his relationship with Cal wasn't as good as most people thought. Some wondered if Pastner might be perturbed that Cousins decommitted and followed Cal. By all accounts of those that claim to know the two coaches, their relationship was not strained at the time. I think these two rumors really weren't rumors but were the product of message board speculation and hypothesizing (logical though) by UK fans. The people I listen to most (and their sources) agree and don't categorize the Pitino Jr news as a rumor, but rather actual information.

To answer your question, it isn't that hard for me to believe that Richard Pitino did it. Did you miss the part where I said "I have no idea if it was Richard Pitino"? Now, Jones may very well be reliable when it comes to UK information because his sources are at UK. I don't know if I believe that people at UK know who leaked the information. I think they believe it was Pitino but that is probably just speculation passed on to Matt Jones.

Haha, I must have. Jones doesn't have a good excuse for what he said. He says he was propagating the common sentiment about Cal and that he had no "source" or piece of information that led to saying it and that it was based on the "where there's smoke..." angle.

As to the rest of your comments, I agree he has UK sources but he's got sources from outside the program as well (more of them).
