I read that the ACC is considering an ACC TV Network. I'd rather watch a Three Stooges Marathon then watch their crappy football teams.

But lets be honest. That network would live and breathe on college hoops.
Also, if you google: "UNC VaTech SEC" it sends back zero results to this rumor. Also I've heard nothing about it...and I live 2 hours from Chapel Hill.

You're forgetting UNC. Big alumni base and huge national following in basketball. I think UNC is more valuable than VT.

No..I get that. I live in Tarheel country. *sigh*...Just saying those numbers put VaTechs worth to the SEC higher than UF or Bama. I was being somewhat sarcastic in saying that VaTechs worth could not possibly be what the OP stated. UNC would make at least some sense basednon the reasons you cite.

UNC is definitely more valuable than VT.
I have stated several times that Texas A&M has the resources to become an overall sports program comparable to UF. I think they are already seeing the positive effects from being in the SEC. Within a few years, I expect Texas A&M to become the dominant overall program in the SEC West, like UF is in the SEC East. Keep in mind, I'm talking overall athletics, not just football.
If there is one other realistic SEC expansion candidate who has the resources to become an elite program (maybe not quite to the level of UF or Texas A&M), it's UNC, but really only if they leave Duke and NCSU behind and become the only SEC school in the state.
If they do that, UNC has the financial and alumni resources to absolutely explode! And NC is a big enough football recruiting base, which they should then dominate, that they could become a pretty significant player in the SEC. If Duke or NCSU were to come with then, that effect would be somewhat diluted.

We have enough teams now in the SEC, We don't need anymore. Besides, more teams just means we have a much smaller piece of the TV revenue pie!

The A&M and Mizzou additions clearly did us a great deal of good because the TV revenue pie expanded enough to allow us to grow payouts by 50% per team to $34 million. I wouldn't encourage the sprawling expansion that the B1G has undertaken. That will probably result in a watering down of competition and tradition but very selective expansion in good TV markets make sense. SEC and Mizzou were good adds that fit well in our conference. Football, basketball, track, baseball and other SEC sports will benefit from this expansion. UNC and VaTech would bring large contiguous TV markets, good academics and strong football and basketball competition to our league. Both are large schools that fill stadiums. Adding UNC to SEC vbasketball would be a tremendous improvement in competition.
I received an inside bit of information last year that indicated our recent additions would bring $35 million and that the addition of UNC and a Virginia team (most luikely VaTech would increase value to $50- $55 million per team. That information has now been confirmed in our latest TV contract negotiation. That leads me to believe that the second prediction may well be on track too. For those that can't believe the size of that impact, just check out the current impact of adding A&M and Mizzou. Independently they were not worth that kind of money but in conjunction with SEC membership, the added viewers and the increased quality of league games made them quite valuable. The addition of A&M is comparable to VaTech. UNC would provide great value to SEC basketball. I don't think the estimate is out of line at all.

I am confused:

The Southeastern Conference's 12 current schools each stand to add about $8 million a year in revenue under soon-to-be-renegotiated television agreements, but they will be well short of what Pacific-12 Conference schools might get from the combination of their recent TV deals and new conference-owned networks, according to an estimate prepared for USA TODAY Sports by a college sports rights-valuation firm.

No reason at all 16 should be the limit, it will depend on the teams.

The ACC network would also have a good following for men & woman's lacrosse...which is huge up here (but not like that would carry the network).
I hope we do add 2 more teams...and Va Tech being one of them.

Even NC gets more money from football than basketball. Football is the money maker in college sports.
Adding them give's us a new state and an expanded fan base. But Virginia does the same thing as does Oklahoma and other states.
We may be done, which is fine with me also.

Can the estimates for the SEC Network be correct? Article says about 1.2 million per school. That would be a terrible deal for us. We make way more than that from our partnership with the Sunshine Network.
