USC is in one of the worst neighborhoods in L.A., and the Colisseum was old and run down 20 years ago. Still, to SC's credit, after the 1992 riots, the school put a lot of time and effort into the neighborhood. I went to an game at SC November of 92 and much of the area was still burned down. Went back a few years ago, and while South Cental is not Beverly Hills, it seemed to be much nicer. Still wouldn't want to be in the area alone at night, but alone during the day, not a problem. Couldn't say that 20+ years ago.
With that said, Kiffen will most likely be gone next year. He was the perfect fall guy for SC and the sanctions they were hit with. Can recruit plenty of talent, but doesn't know how to make them gel. And with the sanctions and lack of depth, probably not going to be in the national championship hunt anyway. So let Kiffie get them through the lean years, then let the next guy come in with a stocked cupboard.
