Ciara Lepanto, an English sophomore, said she was disappointed Burrito Bros. closed.

“That’s crazy,” she said about the news. “It kind of sucks.”

Aerospace engineering sophomore Sam Sheets said he visits Burrito Bros. about once a month.

“I just love Burrito Brothers,” the 20-year-old said. “I would probably cry if it was shut down the whole semester.”

If you ever go to BB it is filled with two types of people mainly, alumni for nostalgia and professors. Sure a few students go but for the most part with places like Chipotle and Moe's around BB has fallen to the wayside.

I for one think Chipotle has a far superior burrito and guac and always thought BB was overrated.

Never been to that one.

A BB opened up in N Tampa a few years back and failed miserably. It closed within only a few months.

I suspect that if an identical restaurant to BB with a different name opened today in Gainesville it would fail miserably. It makes money solely on the backs of those that remember it as wonderful.

I don't agree with that. I'm the last person to eat somewhere just because everyone else says it's great. I tried BB and I liked it. I prefer it to Moes and Chipotle.

I don't like Moes meat options because the steak is always too tough to chew and the beef terribly flavored. The last time I went to Moes it cost me 12 bucks for a burrito plus queso and a drink. What a ripoff. I liked Moes when I could get the kids meal (burrito is like an 8") and it only cost 5 bucks total.

Chipotle is ok but I've never craved it. I used to crave BB.

I'm sure there are a few who truly like it but I've been 3 or 4 times and every time the vast majority of people were alumni/professors. You come on here and 90% of the people who rave about it are older alumni. Go into Moes or Chipotle in Gainesville and they will both be packed with students.

Also if you paid 12 bucks for a burrito/queso/drink at Moes you are doing it wrong. I think Chipotle is a far superior product to Moes (which I agree has poor meat) but the one reason to go to Moes is its cheap. Big Moo meal is like 6 bucks with a drink, small burrito, chips, and a cookie. Add a side of queso and its still half of what you paid.

If I was picking burritos in Gainesville it would be Chipotle/El Indio/La Tienda as the first tier depending what type of burrito I wanted and then Moes if I was being poor and Burrito Bros if all the others were closed.

Chipotle is great, but I eat there so often there's not much novelty in it any more and the burritos have way too many calories. Don't really enjoy the lower calorieofferings. Moe's sucks. It's a very poor imitation of Chipotle. I go back to the very beginning of Burrito Bros. and I know the difference between taquerias then and taquerias now. BB has not evolved very much in the face of stiff competition from savvy chains. But that damn sauce they make has no competition. An old fashioned, skinny beef and bean burrito dripping in that secretly seasoned sauce is deeply satisfying, even beyond the nostalgic thing. I go back every few years, half expecting to realize that there is nothing special about it, then I bite into a burrito, it explodes in my mouth and then starts dripping down my chin. I don't let a bit of it get away. I wipe it off my chin with my fingers and then lick my fingers. I would suck on the friggin napkin if nobody was looking. I don't know how they make that sauce, but there's nothing like it anywhere. My wife agrees, even though she didn't go to school there. We leave the freeway and stop in Gainesville on our way down to south Florida for the sole reason of eating at Burrito Bros. My kids go along with it because they know it's some kind of mystical experience for me. They also like the food, but mostly the setting. I won't be getting down there any time soon, but I'll make sure they're re-opened.

You can say what you want about the nostalgia thing, but too many places have come and gone since 1976. Nostalgia alone won't keep a fast food place going. They have a unique produce and a unique brand experience, history and culture. I wear my Burrito Bros. tee shirt up here in Chicago and people stop me, astonished that I'm wearing that shirt.

Try double chicken, extra cilantro black beans guac and lettuce at chipotle. Pretty low cal relatively and still delicious

Yes, I wil give you that for sure. Sort of like Eskimo Joe's in Stillwater, OK. Nothing great about it, and yet, it has that thing.

I may not be a fan of BB but that doesn't mean I want it to disappear.

Burrito Bros kills Moes. Way more meat, and that sauce is killer. Damn, It's been too long since I've crushed a BB Burrito.

Was always my hangover go to.
