Default 2009 sec championship

What if UF won?

Saban a repeat loser in the sec championship game gets branded as being unable to win the big one. Bama fans run him off

Urban Meyers fake heart attack doesn't occur

3 BCS championships in 4 years for UF

urban Meyer is still here today.

Such a pivotal game in the recent history of this conference

What about if neither did Vanderbilt did? Or imagine if Kentucky actually beat Florida in 07' with that shoot out between Tebow/Woodson... Imagine what breaking that streak would of done for Phillips and that program.. He might not even be on our staff today if they won.... Bunch of what if's... But if Florida would of win, Meyer would still be here, and we would still be having the same problems... He let the kids run the program..

But he won more championships than any football coach in the history of the program, so stop hating.

To live in the past is to die in the present.

I think we have beaten the dead horse of the 2009 SECCG more than enough.

While the premise is interesting, I disagree with the conclusion. Yes Meyer's heart attack probably doesn't occur and yes Meyer is probably still here. However, Saban wouldn't have been run off for going undefeated prior to the SECCG but then losing both years to the 3 time in 4 year MNC. Saban still builds the powerhouse.

The other part of the premise that I think is incorrect is Meyer's future success at UF. In my opinion, the coach who coached in 2009 was a shadow of the guy who coached in 2006. In 2006, to start the MNC UF ran their first 10 or so plays with a slightly different personnel grouping if I am not mistaken. They appeared to strongly outcoach OSU. Meyer outcoached almost no one in 2008. He had much better players than everyone else. In 2009, he was outcoached a handful of times but again he just had that much better talent. Meyer lost the edge.

I think Meyer is a kind of guy that will always lose the edge. He is exceptionally sharp prior to achieving something but loses it once he reaches the mountain top. I believe he will get OSU in the title game next year because the Big Ten is awful. He can surprise in the bowl game. In 2015-2016 I think you will see him burnout again.

meyer saw the handwriting on the wall after the 2009 and 2010 beatdown losses against alabama. He made the right move in leaving UF.

Meyer was leaving after 2009 and I don't think the game impacted it one iota. The mistake was begging him to stay one more year.

The problem is they throttled us. The game wasn't even close. It wasn't like a play or two turned the game and changed the course of history. Saban had the better team that day and there can be no arguing about it.

I generally agree with this, except that the surfacing of Meyer's health problems would just be delayed, not avoided. 2010 would have been a terribly stressful season for him.

Also, the BCSCG against Texas would have been no gimme. Texas was jumping all over Bama until Colt McCoy got hurt. Who knows what would happen with a healthy McCoy against UF.

fans act like the 2009 loss to alabama was an upset. Alabama was much better than uf that year---fact of life. Florida had gaps on offense and one of their best defensive players didn't even play in the game after partying it up the week of the game.

Colt McCoy didn't get "hurt." Bama knocked him out of the game.
