Default Rerouted Keystone Satisfies Nebraska

Will Obama find another reason to deny it now?

http://www.rigzone.com/news/oil_gas/...of_Keystone_XL

Quote:
Nebraska's environment agency has completed a much-anticipated review of the Keystone XL oil pipeline in the state, finding that a new route proposed by pipeline operator TransCanada Corp. avoids sensitive regions that have been a source of concern.

The final review, released Friday, triggers a 30-day deadline for Nebraska Gov. Dave Heineman, a Republican, to make a final recommendation on the pipeline to the U.S. government.

The U.S. State Department is conducting a separate review of the pipeline because it would cross the U.S.-Canada border. The State Department is expected to issue its own draft environmental review in coming days.

TransCanada says it expects to receive a permit from the U.S. government by the end of the first quarter.

The Keystone XL pipeline has been controversial since it was first proposed in 2008, but some of the fiercest opposition has come from Nebraska. Environmental groups, landowners and lawmakers balked at an earlier route proposed by TransCanada because it passed through the state's ecologically sensitive Sand Hills region.

A new pipeline route curves east of the Sand Hills but would still cross the Ogallala Aquifer, a source of drinking water and irrigation supplies, Friday's report from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality said. The new route also avoids many fragile soils in northern Nebraska and shallow groundwater areas
other notable developments from the oil patch

Saudi Arabia cut back production in Dec

EIA estimates increased worldwide demand next year

Monterrey Shale oil may be the budget salvation for California. Occidental has biggest holdings and should be drilling and fracking by late summer now that Cali has defined rules for fracking. More shale oil in place than in ND but geology still uncertain and techniques required to recover oil in place still uncertain.

Bakken leader Continental Resources has proven that the bakken is not the only source rock in North Dakota. They have succesfully drilled, fracked, and tested three additional layers of source rock (3 different benches of Three Forks formation). This dramatically increases the recoverable oil but the USGS will take 3 - 5 years to recognize/quantify it.

Seaway pipeline between Cushing Ok (WTI settlement location) and gulf coast was reversed this week which will bring WTI prices closer to Brent Sea

Rail tanker car orders are backlogged two years as Buffett is banking major coin moving oil out of ND by rail to California and to east coast.

US Oil and gas industry is investing billions in america creating good jobs faster than any other induustry and decreasing the flow of $$$ out of the country. If we would get serious about nat gas as a transportation fuel, we would be energy independent.

I hope it gets approved this time. We don't need new technology or other break throughs to do this safely and well. Pipelines are something we know how to do and if the new route satisfies NEB and avoids the very porous sand hills where a spill would have been horrible then lets do it.

As I said before, the pipeline only had to do it right to be approved. Some of that region has a water table less than a foot underground.

Pipelines break like all things man made. Yet some think with their politics, not with their common sense when told something stupid.

Now that we have found the right way to protect a water resource that was much more important than oil to us, we now can have both oil and the more important bread basket area of this nation.

Wanting half ass, is not a great goal in America.

To answer the original question...yes, Obama will find a reason to deny or delay the pipeline. It will be due to sandhill crane migration patterns and further studies will be needed. Carbon based fuels are not in regime central planning blueprint for their idea of the soon to be bankrupt Amerika.

They originally put it where the ACOE and DEP asked them to. Less distance less stream crossings were reasons...and water table is much deeper than a foot along original route

While I hope the pipeline silliness is over, remember that unless we build more refineries at the end of the line, there really isn't going to be much increase in real supply. THAT is going to be the fight in the future.

Nebraska Republicans, put their state EPA onto the problems stopping it. The yes men who approved it at the Fed level, didn't care about destruction of anything.

You might want to talk to the American ranchers, who didn't want their lands taken to profit another nation.

Nebraska leaders stopped this and they are republican. Now that their oppositon is gone, you got the pipeline, just like I said you would.

Bottom line, I told you this would happen, yet some even now, act like something wrong was done, by doing it right.

Yep. Some keep trying to act as though the only reason it was stopped was because Obama hates oil and wants to ruin the country, or something like that. But to believe that, they have to ignore all the Republican opposition to it in Nebraska.

Not the only reason, but the main reason. Obama ain't playing for the home team and the only ones who don't realize it are the kool aid drinkers who would vote for the donkey...and oh yes...the mooches and slackers that want the "guvmint gravy" pipeling to continue into their checking account and ebt card each month.

so you don't think that securing a canadian oil supply for the US (oil that doesn't have to come from OPEC or ME) doesn't benefit US national security interests?

guess when we took the land for the interstate highway system that was a bad thing too...no wonder we can't get adequate powerlines built to get wind energy from where it is to where it is needed or pipelines built to the coasts so we can get landlocked oil to the east and west coasts where it is needed and being sent by rail now (pipelines a lot safer than rail but Uncle Buffett doesn't get richer if rail isn't needed)...sometimes national interests trump rights of individual property owners, it is why eminent domain was created
