Casey Prather
Had an excellent night in his starting roll. 10 points, 5 rebounds and 4 steals against only 1 TO and 1 PF. That's from ESPN. Another site had him a little different with more rebounds and less steals.
Either way I thought his performance tonight was a great follow-up to his last game and couldn't come at a better time for the team. With WY hobbled and Erik still not 100% his play was just what we needed.

Prather has really impressed me this season. He like Yeguete though are really better as 4s no matter their size.

Another player who's really come into his own this season. A lot of people were predicting him to be the next Corey Brewer when he first came here and while it's taken a few years, he's really starting to put it together this season.
He's always been a talented defender--this year he's finding ways to transition that hustle/energy to offense too.

He's playing under control now. He still makes the athletic plays, but the careless turnovers are becoming much less frequent.

It helps that he has fewer ballhandling responsibilities at the four. This way, he can sort of move off the ball, attack the weakside glass, finish around the rim, and beat his man down the floor in transition.

Maybe this isn't a great comparison, but watching Prather last night I couldn't help but think what would have happend if Ray Shipman had Prather's attitude and work ethic. Prather is longer and probably a better athelete but I think Shipman may have been more skilled. It's really a moot point since he left and don't mean this as much of a what could have been, rather just another example of how hard work and listening to our coaches pays off in the end and that maybe players shouldn't transfer just because they don't play a ton their first year or 2.

Interesting point and I definitely agree. A ton of credit goes to Casey for sticking it out and hard work.
Prather is definitely longer and I think he is a better athlete. Another difference is Prather seems to be a much more natural forward. It never seemed that Shipman didn't have the skill set to play forward, which was a neccessity with his measurables. Of course, its possible with hard work Shipman could of gained these skills.

I think missing the first few games of the season made it hard for him, but he seems to be adjusting now. More playing time will lead to more improvement.

Prather has always been praised for his hard work in practice by Billy. I remember him saying something to the effect that noone deserved to have success more than Casey.
His success is important because it shows everyone that if they work hard in practice, coach won't give up on them even if they struggle during games.

I was watching on-line last night and at times the picture was not very good but it seemed to me Casey has very quick hands on defense. I am about as excited over his continued development as anyone on the team.

Prather is a classic case of how you want your son/daughter to turn out.
I am very glad that he is playing well this year.
I do, however, wonder why he is not consistently getting more minutes.

He has been playing better than Will so far this year and IMO he should get the minutes that Will does.

Why not just let him start? I think our best lineup is going to be:
Boynton
Rosario
Prather
Murphy
Young
and then you have Wilby and WY coming off the bench, where both players seem to thrive.

Well given the minute distribution in recent games, it appears that Donovan views having a PG on the floor pretty important this year.
