Tyler Thompson out for the year
Ouch, that hurts this team quite a bit. Best wishes to Tyler on recovery from his knee injury.

Quote:
Florida redshirt senior outfielder Tyler Thompson will not play this upcoming season, UF announced Wednesday.
Thompson suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in the SEC opener against Vanderbilt last March. It was the second time he had torn an ACL in his career.
Thompson is on track to graduate in May. An SEC Freshman Academic Honor Roll selection in 2009, he finished with a career average of .280 in 154 games played (90 starts). Thompson scored 65 runs, totaled 64 RBI, drew 29 walks, recorded 13 stolen bases in 23 attempts and had 11 doubles, 10 homers and five triples as a Gator.
Florida opens its season with a three-game series against Duke beginning Feb. 15.

I saw where he left the team on the home page.

Yes you did stop our offense very well while there but yes I was holding a grudge. From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

Sad that his career had to end on such a bad injury.

Sounds like it wasn't just the knee injury. Another site reported that he left for personal reasons. I'm sure the injuries we're a contributing factor, but it seems like he just made the decision to move on from baseball. Good luck to him.

Hope Crawford has a few more no-hitters in him.

Frosh Harrison Bader worked in CF with the first team for the fall sessions I saw. I didn't see enough to comment on the level of his play. Thompson was DH in at least one scrimmage and hit one out. I wondered at the time if being DH was related to the injured wheel. Shafer played LF, Ramjit played RF.
Ever since last year, I've been intrigued by the idea of Dent in the OF. He played a couple of games there when Thompson first went down, but moved to 3B shortly after that when Tobias was injured. With Tobias, Power and Dent available for 3B, their talent and experience make me think the two that don't win the 3B job have a chance at OF, 1B or DH. Gushoe would be in that mix if another catcher develops. Are any of the pitchers candidates to play a position as well as Brian Johnson did?
My guess is that a couple of positions will be uncertain when practice starts.

If we end up relying on Cody Dent to spend significant, important time at an outfield position...I mean, no offense to Cody, but that wouldn't augur well for our chances.

I can PM you if you want to know. It's nothing bad, just something that doesn't need to be posted on here.
Sully will use a few options before he decides on who starts in CF. Should be an open try out for the position the first couple weeks of the season.

One of the articles I read yesterday said Tobias got some work in the outfield in the fall, so it's finally more than just fan speculation that he might play out there, at least part time.
With so many new faces being worked in, it's important to remember that the chances the lineup we see on opening night is the same lineup we see on May 1 are pretty much zero. There will be all kinds of mixed and matched lineups during the non-conference portion of the schedule.
