Default Interesting Recruiting Information on WR's

This year 12 players averaged more than 100 yards receiving per game. The only one that was truly highly recruited was Marquis Lee and he was being pegged more as a defensive back and return guy. Quinton Patton was not even ranked coming out of high school to the best of my knowledge.

I have listed the 12 players below and their high school star ratings.

Name School Height Weight 40 Stars Rating
Terrance Williams Dallas, TXW.T. White 6'3" 185 4.5 2 stars 5.3
Marqise Lee Gardena, CAJunipero Serra 6'1" 187 4.4 4 stars 6

That'll tell us a lot. Most are probably the products of "pass happy" offensive systems.

To echo the OP's point, some of these guys are really good football players.

Lee.................USC
Bailey..............West Virginia
Patton.............Louisiana Tech
Hamilton..........Arkansas
Hopkins...........Clemson
Hill..................Arizona
Franklin............New Mexico State
Matthews.........Vanderbilt
Amidon............ Boston College

And as we can see by the list of the teams that they played for. Those players must have been the only go-to receiver those teams had. Many of those teams sucked and probably only had these listed receivers as their only play-makers.

I would much rather have 3 or 4 guys that catch 700-850 yards/year than one guy that has a thousand yard season.

This made me laugh because right now I'd be pretty happy with 3 or 4 guys that catch 350-425 yards/year. I think we only had one guy over 300 yards this year and he was the TE.

I know what you mean. And I totally agree.

But, my point was relative to the other post.

Well Clemson, WV, and USC actually had very good receivers to play with the ones mentioned above. Didn't research the other teams.

Those teams sucked? By what standard. Right off the top of my head, I would say 3/4 of them are winning teams.

You better check again - at least half of them are average (ranked) at best.

While it is true that playing in a pass happy offense is obviously going to allow you to put up bigger numbers, I was trying to reflect, Its not always the highest rated, or fastest guys coming out of high school that end up as the most productive receivers. As long as WM is here, we will rarely have a WR post big numbers, which is OK, As long as we get guys who can contribute when needed. That said I like our WR class this year.

Its not like quality receivers only come from top ranked teams. Go to receivers, if even the only one on the team, still have to go against the opponent's best ... all game ... week in and out.

Brent Pease, with the help of Joker Philips, might have something to say about that. I hope we just get more balanced on offense. And, that means more total yards of offense to compete with the pass-happy schools.
