Really??
Mic said tonite's game provided the largest student attendance in 7 years.... 3,200 students.
This seems like an odd game to set a recent record.

Wonder if there was some kind of push at school to get more students in the seats?

Seems ridiculous to me that 3200 out of almost 50,000 is the best in 7 years...when there are so many empty seats at the games...sigh

our inability to get more student support is one of the greatest mysteries of all times.

Especially when we consistently have a ranked and competitive team too.
I'm not trying to single out this year's group of students either since it's been bad for awhile now--even back to when I was a student there.

I think it's because we issued alumni tickets to students for free. Normally the first 2300 tickets are free to students, but this time we issued 3200 I think. There is a poster here who said he went to register earlier in the week and it was sold out, so he had to buy them. But then they gave out 1k more tickets for free to students later in the week.

There wasn't any push about it around campus. In fact, i don't remember seeing anything about the game until the busses started showing "Beat Georgia" today on the destination bar on the outside of the busses. Apparently the Missouri game will be even better. Already a BUNCH of people around campus talking about how good that game will be.

Not to me, I have outlined strategies previously. However, it's a tough balance between Revenue and student support

I did a quick write up on it and interviewed the asst. athletic director in charge of ticketing.
You are pretty close to correct. They were not "alumni" tickets given out, but rather reserved seats that were unsold. Apparently this has been a recent concerted effort... to increase the student ticket allocation as demand and supply allows.
Tonight a lot of students wanted in. . . and they got their wish.
That's great. Billy also commented about it and was quite pleased with the crowd.

They should find a way to give more alumni tickets away, especially during the week when out of towners are not going to the game.
Hopefully, this push will continue.

Loved going to games when I was in school -- ('92-'93 was my last hoops season) so nowhere near the team we have now.
Students need to get out in bigger numbers.

In my opinion, students are what makes the college basketball atmosphere what it is.
Us old folks sitting back in our seats watch the game in a different way than when we were undergrads. I didn't know the difference between a charge or a block and if one of our guys was called for the foul, I was screaming my lungs out at the ref.

I think this was discussed several times in the past. The alumni (or the BB fans) who want to financially support the team pay for seats that they can't or don't attend, especially on the weekdays, and then the place looks empty. In this era it should be easy to put your tickets into an electronic pot for redistribution to the students. I presume that they are now getting this system up and running.

Aka - thanks for starting this thread. It's great to read a positive message about attendance, and particularly student attendance. It's also great that the UF AA is doing something to accommodate students and fill seats.
