Why does Bama claim 15 titles?
Figured this would be a good place for this, Alabama is a great football program both currently and historically; they've won more than their fair share of national titles- given these facts why does both the University of Alabama and the Alabama fanbase insist on claiming absurd titles that no one outside the outsize Trailer Park that is Tuscaloosa recogizes? Is it some deep inferiority complex they need to compensate for or what?
Note that by Bama standards we won the national title in 1984- but no one here claims it because we're not that desperate yet Bama claims half a dozen or so after the fact national championships.

I looked on a few SEC teams Wiki pages, and Tenn can actually claim 14 football NC's using the Bama formula....

Why not?
We should start counting the 1984 NY Times championship we won.

Napoleon Complex, historically. Now that they've won a few legitimate titles, they ought to "come clean" and distance themselves from the bogus titles. They ought to be secure enough in their success now to get real about it.

It is comical... I have had this argument with several Bammers over the year, one being my boss, and he always comes back and says that Boise State went undefeated in 2006. Blah, Blah, Blah... They will never change... The 1964 one is just baffling...

If we're truly using the Bama system, why limit it to 1984.
In 1985 Steve Eck picked the Gators as National Champions. I don't have a clue who Steve Eck is, and he's the only one who picked UF, but 1 minor selector is all that some of the titles Bama officially claims are supported by.
So next season, I am looking forward to the University of Florida hopefully winning our 6th National Championship!

Although I agree, that would mean them admitting they highly exaggerated their title count for all those years....not going to happen.

I have been giving them grief about 1941 for years but I read a decent defense of that title recently. Doesn't really prove anything but it does present a seemingly valid argument in favor of that title.

The real question is why does no sports media outlet take them to task for their idiotic claims?

They've been patiently teaching the equipment managers to count up to 15 over the last hundred or so years. You really want them to waste all that effort?

Just one of many questionable ones. I personally like the ones that were awarded some 15-20 years latter.

I heard last week that before the polls Bama lost to Notre Dame on the last game of the season...leaving both with one loss...yet Bama claimed the MNC that season. (I believe that's the correct telling of the story....)
If true, ND should claim this year...and we should claim 2009.
That's how silly some of the Bama titles are.

They have several "retroactive" titles awarded by organizations that didn't even exist when the season in question was played.
http://spittingfire.wordpress.com/20...championships/
Perhaps the worst was in 1941, when "Football Thesaurus" (who had to be getting paid by the Tide) awarded a retroactive title to Bama despite Bama finishing 20th in the AP Poll that year. Geeeeesh.
