SEC Basketball!
Figured with the season starting up, we might get a running thread going on games happening around the league.
Alabama only down 6 to Missouri right now with about 6 minutes to play.

And Bama loses by 16 pts. Then again maybe it's just for the best that Missouri keeps winning as its success likely helps the SEC RPI. Heck it can't get much worse than being ranked 9 in RPI amongst conferences. SEC is behind such powerhouses as the Mountain West, Missouri Valley and Atlantic 10 conferences. :-p At least there's UF, Missouri, and UK to help prop things up for the moment. Not sure if any other SEC team is going to get their act together any time soon (maybe Tennessee).

It was a pretty tight game until the final few minutes where Missouri sort of ran up the score. I don't think Alabama is as bad as they've looked the past few weeks.

True, that's a better perspective as I just went based off the final score. I like Grant and wish him well except when Bama plays UF. There's still a lot of season left so maybe they can turn things around.

A few weeks ago, the SEC was the 6th-rated conference in rpi. But just as we figured, that lousy standing wouldn't last, and we were right.
The SEC is now the 9th-rated conference.
The excitement is palpable!

Truly embarrassing... if tenn had Maymon I think they'd be top 25 too. UK will be in top 20 before year is over.

I know they've had one of their starters out but nothing beyond that.

RPI is a measure, but we all know that it is, at best, of limited use in evaluating either a team's or a conference's strength.
Nonetheless, for a Conference that stands literally head and shoulders above all others in Football, to rank 6th-9th in Basketball by any measure, is rather sad.
Generally, the SEC fields top teams in just about every sport, and certainly, a few SEC teams are of National Calibre even this year. However, with 14 teams, you know that some are not going to be very good (like KY in football and Miss St in BB).
The thing about sports is that every game is a game between two teams each of which wants to win, and that frequently means a competitive and usually exciting game (unless something happens like last night's Gator win).
Thus, in fact, Planet: "The Excitement is Palpable."

The biggest problem with the SEC bball teams at the moment is the amount of coaching turnover overall in the league. Hopefully, the league will start to turn around with a little coaching continuity and/or stability (making the assumption that the current coaches are good enough to make a turnaround with a little time).

Definitely. DVRing for 30 minutes but will finish live. Unless its a tournament game I'm too impatient for commercials.
