Ronald Powell
A lot of folks seem to be excited about Powell returning next year. But by the time practice starts in the fall he will have missed two spring practices and one fall, along with some personal workout time. So personally I have some reservations about how much he is going to be able to contribute next year - at least to start the season.
Thoughts?

Dante Fowler & Jonathon Bullard should be great at DE plus all of the other recruits should provide good depth!
Will Powell be a rsJr or rsSo next season? Can Powell get an extra year by declaring medical hardship for the last season?

Powell looked almost unstoppable at TE; perhaps, he could be a weapon there as well if needed.

There's definitely an issue with continuity, rust, and likely conditioning, but have you seen RoPo lately? He's built like a tank. Obviously it takes more than that to make an impact in the SEC, but he was the top overall recruit in the country for a reason. He has all kinds of talent and once he works his way back into form, I have no doubt he can make a significant impact for us next year.

When Coach Boom spoke about Powell after he re-injured his knee, Coach mentioned something about a 'revision'. I believe that means there was some sort of failure in Powell's initial knee surgery.
I don't know what the outcomes are on 'revisions', but I suspect it's no sure thing Powell will be able to contribute next year.

Powell will be back at it for next season. When he came over to chat at the hotel, the kid looked beast. He has definitely been working out.
Ready to see him out there grinding!

Not very concerned, mostly excited. Complete ACL repairs have become more the norm than the exception. Assuming he does come back at full speed, he creates a lot of possibilities given the personnel that has arrived or is arriving before fall. (A lot of this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I'll ad more nauseum.) I could see Fowler moving to the strong side and Bullard moving inside making room for Powell at Buck. Can also see him playing Sam, where he excelled late in his true freshman season. BTW, he will be a RS Junior since he's played two seasons. I like him staying at Buck, then moving some of the younger, smaller DEs to LB. Cox and McCallister could bring a significant size upgrade without giving up any speed. Sherit could play LB as well. Not sure how long till he's healthy enough to play.

He will have only missed 1 spring if he misses the upcoming one, (I assume he will miss this one?) because he wasn't injured until the O&B game so at least he got all those practices in. I'm not sure how close he actually was to returning this fall but he re-injured the knee while trying to play for the uga game so he was getting some work in. He'll definitely have some rust but it's not like he will have just been sitting around doing nothing since he last played.
I'm really excited about his contributions next year

According to Quinn he said ROPO was going to be the leader on D. He said that he plays with a lot of emotion. That is saying a lot considering Elam was the captain of the D this year. I am really looking forward to seeing him play this coming year. When I saw him at the Sugar Bowl he looked to be a BEAST!

It will all come down to how healthy am explosive he is...if he'a not good he won't really be an effective leader
Matt Elam led by example and made some huge plays in key moments
Ropo has been mostly high school and spring practice hype up till this point

RoPo lead the team in sacks in 2011. That's a bit more than hype.

Someone should do a feature story on him. Like Gatorcountry or the Gainesville Sun. It would be good to get an update on him and get a timetable for his return.

The same thing was said about McCray prior to this season...and Powell has more talent and a higher ceiling than McCray did. Not to mention, Powell's contributed on the field in the two seasons he's played for us.
