Has anyone dealt with a broken hand (boxers fracture)?

I am 98% sure I broke my hand a couple days ago. It's sill swollen and painful. I can't afford to go to the doctor. Has anyone had this happen? Did you splint it yourself? What was recovery time like?

I don't know, but that's why you lead either with the heel or side or your hand when in close quarters.

Valdota, try a hand and wrist splint, which you can buy over the counter in any pharmacy. Use ice for the swelling and extra strength Tylenol. Good luck.

Fail... I know. Anyways, I caught nothing but my pinky finger. When I looked a my fist, still balled up, my pinky knuckle was obviously set back a good 1/4" to 5/16" from it's normal position. Of course, behind that right there are 2x4s. On top of the drywall, bu under the paint, where the corner bead usually is, is a sheet of heavy-ish gauge metal. It's dented in pretty damn good. My poor pinky. /fail

That is really poor form man. You really dont want to be punching anything with your pinky. Sounds broken to me, better to get it set by a doctor than have to have it fixed later on imo.

Broken bones before and fixed myself, I would go by one of those wrist braces they have for carpal tunnel syndrome, but inside it I would wrap not real tight but tight enough with an ace bandage. Your time depends on the severity of your injury, fracture could be 3-4 weeks maybe even a little sooner, but an actual broken hand will render you out of contention for at month-month and a half possibly even more. It also depends on how much you move it.

Haha, yeah, don't want to punch anything with my pinky. It's strange how it only got the pinky, the knuckle next to it is perfectly fine, not tender or anything. I knew that I near the wall and the closet door, I just wish I would have hit one or the other... or more importantly, neither. From what I've been reading, as long as it didn't deviate past 30 degrees, I should be fine.

Good luck with that, I used to do stupid stuff like that out of frustration and thankfully never broke anything. If it isnt obviously broken I guess just tape it and give it a few weeks. I bet you can youtube how to tape a fractured hand.

I learned my lesson about punching something in a fit of rage a number of years back when my son handed me his report card on the way home from school. I punched out the windshield of the wifes car. An expensive lesson but at least my son learned not to ever cross me again.

My suggestion to you woud be to learn to control that rage, I did.

the most complicated part of the body is the hand when it comes to bones and ligaments. wifey does hand therapy and the surgeons and therapists who do it are very specialized and highly trained. it is up to you but I wouldn't mess around with it.

go to a walk in clininc and get the xrays and hope it isn't something that requires surgery. will probably cost sless than a couple of months worth of phone bills.

taking the chance could lead to long term damage and limited use that will cost you a lot more than not taking care of it. jmho,,

and besides, you might get some good pain meds for your trouble.
