He's making it sound like distance is the primary reason. UF is closer to Jax than both. Kid needs to man up, obviously it was his coach/pruitt.

On the night Alabama wins its third NC in four years in dominating fashion again, Walker, with a shot at playing for the Tide, commits to FSU instead?
WTF? Does he NOT want to play for titles?

Wow, if he was my son I would have smacked him in the head.

Yes you did stop our offense very well while there but yes I was holding a grudge. From the day you got here and every time I hear you speak and your excitement about coaching our Gators, working your tale off and being a straight shooter, you are now one of my all time favorite coaches. Thanks coach.

I dont feel too comfortable saying this but whatever.
Walker recently changed households from his dad's place to his mothers. Once that happen he was not going to Bama. His mother did not want him going far from home. Muschamp had been talking to Demarcus and his mother and assuring them Florida was the place for Walker. This was all happening without Geis really being involved since Walker was already out of school.
When Geis got down to the all american game he started pushing Bama and FSU. Walker has a very good relationship with Pruitt. It seems Geis used that to get Walker to FSU and away from Florida.

So does that mean were in contention for him now? Thought UF coaches didn't want him?

I dont know what it means. I dont think Ira really wants to go to FSU but he will need to find another high level program he likes to take him. If we have an extra scholarship left over on signing day we are not going to save it might was well offer him instead of some 3 star project Dlinemen.

You really want to shock the world? Fine - announce to everyone that you will be quitting football in order to attend Juilliard to study modern dance. But, changing schools on NSD isn't a shocker.

I can understand him going there - the guy he was closest to in the recruiting process went there and he's been open about saying how much Pruitt has helped him throughout.
I'm also convinced that Walker must look at our young DEs like Bullard and Fowler and then see guys like Werner, Jenkins and and Carradine leaving FSU and think his playing time has to be more tempting there. Mario Edwards has been, IMO, a collossal disappointment this year as the overall No.1 recruit in the Nation (I assumed he'd been red-shirted for most of the year because so little had been mentioned of him so far...anywhere!). It looks like Walker can go in and make an impact which I'm not convinced he will be able to do as much here.
So for those reasons, it's hard to slate him for being "illogical". Actually there's some sound logic to it indeed.
That said, I went through the process of choosing universities in England for around 15 months (not for an athletic scholarship, I must admit!) and lots of time and effort went into reducing the numbers etc. I had an academic advisor help me throughout the process and I'm very grateful to him.
I'm not sure though if, 24 hours or so before I was due to begin classes, he says "Go to this university instead of all of the others you've considered because I'm going there!" that I'd have just towed the line and gone. DeMarcus is his own man - I know relationships matter - but just choosing a school for one guy is risky ground, IMO. What if Pruitt is snagged for a HC job in 2 years? I just feel edgy about it all as a basis for a sound decision.
That said, it is DW's to make and even as a Seminole I wish him luck. (He's going to need it in the Swamp next year!)

I think you're probably overthinking it a bit relative to the depth chart. It was probably more like Geis and Pruitt saying "You're going to FSU", and Walker saying "Yes, sir".

Ok I think I figured this out. DeMarcus is going to FSU because Denson is coming here. DeMarcus is going to FSU because they will have no O-lineman in this class to block him! Smart move...
