Best of luck to the kid - He might be making the right decision for his own best interest.
If I thought I should be starting on the Gators squad and didn't then I might seek another team to show off my talents.

Kiss Dwyer goodbye. And, it is beginning to look like some WR's don't want to come to UF as well.
Foley, you should have interviewed Charley Strong. He made Champ look like a Chump.

Not terribly surprised by this announcement--but not exactly bummed either. Driskel has earned the starter's role with his play this season...and Brissett had multiple chances to win the job: first during the offseason, then when Driskel went down in the ULL game and Brissett was the starter against Jacksonville State. Its not like our offense completely dominated against Jacksonville State either--which I don't blame Brissett for, but I also don't think his performance in that game showed us anything we were missing.
Best of luck to him...QB competitions happen at every school and it's no mark against him that things didn't work out here. With the right scheme and OC, he could be a star--but he definitely needs his own work too.

I join those who wish Jacoby well and thank him for his efforts at our program.
Don't blame any student athlete for wanting to play ball.
Go Gators!

I wish Jacoby well, also. He is a good kid and a class act, from what I have seen.
But hey, don't forget to leave the playbook - or play pamphlet - in the locker.

You should change your name to the troll.
You should also try following recruiting as we have already landed verbals from several stud WRs. We will see who is more relevant in the next few years, Louisville or UF.
My money is on the Gators.

He had the same chance Driskell did in 2011 and in the spring and fall practice.
He did do great when called in for the injured Driskell.
I don't see that he is any better from watching him in the games.

I also try to remember that I'm a fan, not a coach, and there may very well be subtle improvements that I don't see as a fan.
I'm hoping that with a full season under his belt and another spring and fall practice we see a more polished QB in Jeff next season than we saw this year. IOWs, I think he still has the potential to become an outstanding college QB.
As far as Jacoby is concerned, I'm sorry he's transferring because it was reassuring to know that we had a reasonably competent backup if Jeff was injured. But to me that's what he was, a backup. I saw nothing from him that makes me think he was ever going to beat Jeff out to become our starter.

Agree
Seems as there are always people here hating on the current QB in favor of the backup, unless the QB throws goes 30/35 for 400yrds and 5 TDs with no picks and 1 run in score to boot.
Plenty were hating on Tebow in favor of Newton during the 2007 season

Good point. And I think the real issue for him is that he isn't being given a chance to compete, which is too bad in my book. I'm not saying Jacoby should be our starter, but he should have the opportunity to compete, so I don't blame him for moving on.

With the #1 defense in the country you don't need a great quarterback because "if you don't give up any points you can't ever lose."

Great RB this year, 1rst YR OC, Avg Oline, Avg WR, Good Athletes, you're right it must be all JD's fault the O did not score 50 points per game.
I'm sure it was all the O's fault in the Sugar bowl too right? Hell, if UF just had (5) 10 minute scoring drives, UL never would have had the ball and Bidgewater would not have been able to pick apart the #1 D like he did!

I don't judge a QB by how the o-line blocks as much as I do by the fact that he locks his eyes on one receiver, he holds the ball and gets sacked when he had plenty of time to throw it away, he tries to throw when he's in someone's grip and fumbles and so many other things that good QBs don't do.
But you can blame the supporting cast for all that if you wish to do so.

The bottom line is that we didn't need a great QB, or a great offense for that matter, to go 11-2 this year.
That's why I was so confident we'd easily beat the 6-6 record the doom and gloomers were pumping before the season.
To Driskel's credit, he protected the football well in all but two games... and those were the games that bit us. And he did make some strong plays in a couple of games where we made comebacks, so his performance is pretty clearly tied to our record.
But if we want to take the next step to a championship level, he will need to learn to read defenses and understand what the defense is giving him. Then get the ball there, whether via the run or the pass, or at least keep us out of negative plays. This will be particularly true next season, when our defense will almost certainly go through growing pains.
