In Alabama the next big sport after football is nascar and the best of the best is talladega. Take the largest gator football crowds and multiply them by 3 and you still cant match talladega.

There's only about 20 jobs in F1 for drivers, so its inevitable that a few venture over this way.
As for Nascar drivers wanting to drive F1, there's more than a few that have been intrigued by the possibility. A little over 10 years ago, I suggested to Jeff Gordon that he give it a shot. He told me that he was too old to go over there and start over and the learning curve was huge. At that time, Jeff had just won his fourth title. Nascar drivers have enormous respect for F1 drivers and would love to have half the down force those cars have.

Road racing is the ultimate test of driving skill. I know American spectators don't appreciate it like the rest of the world does, but that doesn't take away from it in my mind.

I'll bet if someone does not like rap 'music', you call them a redneck.

The people who say that redneck stuff have obviously never been to a race in the Northeast, Midwest, Southwest or egad Sonoma.
Our sport is full of people from all over the country and from different parts of the world.
Is Talladega full of rednecks, well yes, but that represents 1 out of the 20 tracks we go to every year.

My guess is he is poking fun at the redneck stereotype associated with Nascar. However he's about 20 years behind the times if this is what he thinks, the sport and it's new breed of drivers have evolved in leap and bounds. That said, I find it boring.

When JPM was just getting into NASCAR, Jeff Gordon drove JPM's F1 car better than JPM drove Gordon's stock car.
But I get your larger point. I'm not attacking F1. I just get tired of the facile claim that its drivers are the world's best.

I'm an American who appreciates road racing. In addition to NASCAR, I follow F1, Indy, ALMS, etc. That said, I doubt that road racing is any more difficult than maneuvering a nearly two-ton stock car, inches from another, at over 200 mph.

Redneck states and countries that have huge NASCAR followings:
NH, NY, PA, CA, NV, MI, WI, Canada and Australia.

Stock cars are infinitely harder to drive, no doubt about that. That's why I have so much respect for Jeff, Tony and other Nascar drivers who drive road courses as well as they do.
It's hard enough to turn left all day in a car that has so little downforce. Then throw in the challenge of having to turn right, use so much brake and the constant shifting that is required at Sonoma and Watkins Glen.

It's my pleasure. I'm a Gator and I love GC! But it does take a lot of time and I'm just a "volunteer" on here. Not a paid staff guy.
Go Gators!

Butt hurt? I'm gonna go out on a limb and say this probably isn't the first time people haven't found you funny and you seem a little surprised and butt hurt yourself. Since when its it requires to be a redneck to like NASCAR? Is it redneck to hunt or fish because I'm pretty sure all kinds do both.

Hackneyed, overdone. Besides, F1 drivers invariably fail at NASCAR.
