QB Everett Golson Notre Dame - could be the difference
I have been trying to predict the outcome of the Bama/ND game and trying to find where the edge lies for ND.
We all know that the ND defense front 7 will come ready to play. I think Bama will not run the ball successfully against ND defense.
The key match-up as far as I am concerned is between ND offense vs the vulnerable Bama defense. Can Everett Golson pick apart the Bama secondary the way Bridgewater exposed our defense. Everett Golson is a sophomore, who was a 4 star dual-threat QB out of high school. For those who have watched him, what's his potential to pick apart the Bama defense?
My prediction: if Everett Golson is as good as Bridgewater was against us, ND wins this game.

Ala will whip that Irish azz! Satan will have that bunch of Gumps ready. The Irish schedule will be exposed as weak. Which it was.

IMO the edge at QB will definitely be on Bama's side. While AJ may not be the most exciting qb in the country, he is one of if not the best managers of the game playing today.
Throw in the fact that the entire Bama team has experience at this level moreso than multiple teams combined--this game could get out of hand with the Gumps exposing the Lamers for what they are.

Golson possesses McNabb-like mobility, an attribute that has vexed Alabama’s powerful defense in recent years. The Crimson Tide is No. 1 nationally in total defense, but it was carved up by the scrambling and evasiveness of Johnny Manziel in November. Prior to that, dual-threat quarterbacks like Cam Newton, Tim Tebow and Jordan Jefferson have had success against ‘Bama.
The hardest part for Golson might be reading the Tide defense. Nick Saban and defensive coordinator Kirby Smart play a base 3-4 defense, but frequently alternate into a 4-3 look and can disguise blitzes. For a quarterback and his offensive line, the first job pre-snap is recognizing the front and making any necessary calls and adjustments. This won’t be easy Monday, though the interminable layoff from Nov. 24 until now probably was better for Golson than anyone in terms of film study.
Despite his youth, nobody at Notre Dame is worried about Golson’s confidence in this game. He arrived in South Bend last year convinced he could become the starter and was surprised to find himself redshirted and playing on the scout team. Golson has always believed he was good enough to do what he’ll do Monday: start in the national championship game.

Golson - while a nice kid - is no Johnny Manziel.

I don't see much of a comparison to Bridgewater s passing skills, but if he has a good day he could be a poor man s Manziel with his running.

If Golson is as good as Bridgewater was against us, then ND will win.....easily. TB was "out of his mind" good against UF. I haven't seen a college QB play that well (all things considered: vs a great D, ball placement, poise under pressure, movement in the pocket, running for yardage, reading defenses) in quite a while. I totally agree that if the stage is not too big for Golson, ND has a good shot at the upset.

I'm from Myrtle Beach and watched Everett for four years in High School. If anybody wants to see something amazing , youtube Everett Golson senior Highlights. Besides being an unbelievable kid, you wont see many highlight tapes like this.

If ND wins, then in my opinion it will be from coaching.

Not sure when I've agreed with Avatar, but this isn't the same Bama defense of the last few years--particularly their secondary. It's a good defense for sure, but not great and definitely beatable. I don't know if Golston has enough to do it, but Bama played 3 good teams this year (LSU, aTm, and UGA) and all three moved the ball effectively. Heck, Mettenberger had almost 300 yards passing against Bama.
No one in the SEC outside of the Aggies have played as well in their bowl as expected, especially defensively. I'm not sure why that hasn't given pause to any of the folks assuming Bama will obliterate ND, but I think several people here might be surprised at how close this game gets.

I think either ND wins a close one or Bama blows them out.

As long as he doesn't get that Teddy Bridgewater look in his eye . . .

He's the one person ND has to have to win the game. Without him ND cannot win. I give ND a puncher's chance because of Gholson. His 'luck' runs out Monday night. He's quite a player as others have said, but he's not Manziell.
