Default Charley Strong could be at UT right now

The thought of Charley Strong at UT makes me want to hurl considering the coaching job he's done at Louisville. He could be in the state of Fla as we speak getting commitments from top players. I'm thankfull he sayed at the 'Ville.

Fwiw, Butch Jones beat him two out of three and the game this year was just 34-31. We will see but I wouldn't get too carried away with the Sugar Bowl. You guys just weren't into the game for some reason. Louisville is still the same team that lost to UConn and were not as impressive against anyone else as they were against Fla.

Charlie is building a first rate program that isn't hindered by ridiculous expectations of its fan base. That is why its smart for him to stay put where he is and will be appreciated.

HERE, HERE.

However, as he noted, he is a Black coach with a White wife, and there is an INCREDIBLE amount of prejudice in this country, almost everywhere.

Most white folk are mostley oblivious to this, but every Black well knows of what I speak.

TN got the guy that's 2-1 against Strong with the 1 being a very close overtime game against this years Louisville team.

I disagree. The passion and size of Tennessee's fan base is the best thing they have going for them and is what will eventually pull them out of this 7 year abyss. Neyland is 104,000 strong and even in this downward spiral has kept them in the top ten in attendance. Papa John's (a sell out name just like KFC Yum Yum) is a 55,000 seat stadium which even Strong acknowledged is usually only filled with between 40,000 to 45,000 fans. Charlie chose the path of least resistance but that was not an ambitious move.

If, by any chance, the UF job gets open again (highly unlikely because Muschamp will win an NC next year), would Strong leave UL for UF?

The next job Charlie will get will be at South Carolina... That is a job he will leave for, unless for some reason Muschamp doesn't work out here. Notre Dame might be possible as well if Kelly ever left (don't see that happening as well).. My feelings are is that Charlie will go to SC when Steve Spurrier hangs it up.

I don't think so, but I think the perception of his job performance is being skewed by the Sugar Bowl outcome. He deserves a lot of credit for that, but don't forget some of the other results his team put up during the season:

Lost to UConn at home
Lost to Syracuse
Beat FIU (3-9) by 7 points
Beat Southern Miss (0-12!) by 4 points
Beat USF (3-9) by 2 points

Looking at the whole picture, UL had a fairly good season and ended it by playing an exceptional game against UF. But this wasn't a well-oiled juggernaut in the Big East all season.

One last point: Good QB play can make almost any coach look really good.

Muschamp could be at UT as well. Muschamp was offered the job in 2010, but turned it down hoping to be the next head coach at Texas. Imagine if Muschamp ended up at Tenn.

Very good points, Brodeur. Recency bias is strong on the boards right now.

UL had an overwhelming psychological edge coming into this game. You had:

1) players with chips on their shoulders b/c many were from FL and didn't get offered by the Big 3
2) a coach with a chip on his shoulder for not being offered the HC gig at UF
3) a conference with a chip on its shoulder for being completely dismissed relative to the SEC
4) a team galvanized by the fact that its head coach stayed instead of taking a more prestigious gig
5) a team galvanized by the fact that it was playing in one of the biggest games in its program's history (only the 2nd BCS bowl for UL).

Sometimes, due to factors out of your control, you just walk into a buzzsaw. That's what happened to us on Wednesday night. LSU faced a similar situation having to play a Clemson team that was hellbent on erasing the memory of its previous bowl game against WVU.

The jury is still out for me. Like someone previously mentioned, a good QB can make a coach look better then he actually is.
