Band member here. Yes, this did happen, and it isn't the first time. Since at least last year, Darrin has come to sing the Alma Mater with the band, win or lose. In fact, a fan page called "Gator Band Loves Darrin Kitchens #49" was created after we lost to LSU last year by another band member. Darrin knows about the group...he is a true Gator to his core.

He made a key block on the Debose kickoff return for a touchdown, and plays quite a bit in every game at linebacker. The guy who wrote the article doesn't know what he's talking about.

I think that this says more about the quality of Kitchens as a person than the faults of the bruised, battered & embarrassed team that didn't come over as well. If this is something normally done after victories only, then we should be even more proud of Kitchens & less critical of the rest of the team.

I also sent him a personal message, which he humbly thanked me for. It was just him standing there and the message is, "It's not about me." I love it. Even some die hard Dawg fans have said how great it was.

Mostly, all of the flap about this was generated by opposing fans or the media to create a story. Two versions of when it's done, neither after a loss though:
