I am glad for the Gator Band. They have come a long way. I actually enjoy listenting to them now whereas only a few short years ago, I cringed when they were on the field.
But, this award does not mean they are the best in the land. They just aren't. They are not even the best band in the SEC. And, the fact that FSU's band has never won it and ours has leads me to believe that this is at best a nice honor and more likely not worth much. As much as I hate FSU, their band program is far superior to ours and it has been that way for decades and it still is that way.

When F$U stops renting high school bands you might have an argument.
Jacksonville State was the best band on the field for their game against us
This is about the Gator Band being chosen for a HUGE national award. Cannot we just celebrate that and be happy for them? Instead you want to compare the Jacksonville State Band with the Gator Band which happened to be the Gator Band Alumni Show. Nothing against the Jacksonville State Band as they have a fine program and I know several Band Directors that graduated from there.

This is a National Award given out every other year. It is a huge accomplishment for our band. Please be happy for them. It does not mean that they are the best band in the land as you say.

Always been a marching band and general all around music fan equally to sports. Not that anyone would give a flip, but I wonder how many out there that played QB and ALSO marched in halftime shows during the same games. Did it for two years until Coach got pissed my Junior year and almost came to blows with the Band director. LMAO! Hard to appreciate the level of commitment the band puts in until you've walked in their shoes. It was refreshing to hang with the cool bandies, instead of the dumb jocks all the time.
And our Director was partial to shows featuring The Doors in the 70s - which was cool. He turned me on to my favorite all-time band. FWIW.
I honestly don't know why Bethune-Cookman University's band wasn't chosen over them. They are the epitome of a GREAT marching band. Their outstanding professionalism, musicianship, and precision is 2nd to none. And they're arguably the best marching band in the state of Florida right now. Hail Wildcats! #MarchingWildcat2k12Fall.

Donovan Wells is a great band director.

BCC has outstanding musicianship? That is just ridiculous.

I know why. You were not on the committee that picked the winning band.
Once again I am not cutting down Bethune-Cookman's Band but I am celebrating the Gator Band.
