I think the one downside of a failure that may not have been adequately considered is that if Louisville was set up in great field position and scored a quick TD, we are basically stuck in hurry up mode for the rest of the game, or at least put into a position of having to force the ball downfield much more than we are comfortable doing. If we had kicked deep and forced a punt, we could have run our base offense like normal since we were only down by 14 with a lot of time remaining.

And I sure don't mind us passing on first down, but Driskel making a bad throw and AD tipping it up in the air for a pick six sure didn't help.
Likewise, I didn't want to see the onside kick at the start of the second half. I wanted to see us do what we do all the time this year. Calmly make adjustments...cover the TE and FB on the blitz packages, when we use them, and contain Bridgewater in our rush lanes. Play good defense, get the ball back make some adjustments in our blitz pickups and run game, and start wearing them down.
And not recovering the kick wasn't the big deal, but I wonder if we overreact and get 30 yards of penalties and a player ejected if we just calmly confidently make adjustments at halftime. I think probably not.
On the flip side, give credit to Coach Strong for a great game plan and getting his players ready to execute - especially Bridgewater, who just lit it up. That team played their butts off.... we got "ambushed" as MOI noted.

All very valid critiques of our game...

Sure, and that's essentially what happened. It took a game within reach out of reach, and basically threw Louisville into clock draining mode from their second possession of the second half on.
I think it was a mistake. I would have thought it was a mistake had it worked. I would have thought it was a mistake had it worked and we won the game.

Right I just think CWM should have believed in our halftime adjustments and the strength of the team. I am not sure he calls that play in the regular season.

OBOB doesn't need anyone's opinion to matter but his own, everything else is simply bitching to him.

Sometimes I feel the same way too. That's why I'm here critiquing, debating and somewhat criticizing the coaches performance/play-calling/preparations for that game..

This out of the ordinary performance by our D forced our O into a different type of game, which we were unable to execute.
Our poor play was a team effort, however if our D played as they have all year, and our O played as they did all year, we win the game.
|
Point taken, but that still doesn't excuse the O just because they have shown a more consistent level of ineptitude all season. The defense is not superhuman, they cannot win every game by themselves. See LSU/Clemson

No, mine's bitching, too. I'm pretty sure I've made that clear here.

I'm not sure how clear to make it.
Bitching = complaining.
Everyone's bitching. I am too. And for good cause.
But that was not the point of the post. The point was that if you missed how much bitching (or "complaining," if you take offense) about the offense there has been over the last few days I will assume that you've just awakened from your hangover. And that would be totally acceptable.

Understood, just interpreted it differently. But I think for the most part people just want to know what went wrong but more importantly how to fix it and yes your right there have been complaints about the offense for years. I just didn't see it fair to bash the defense for one bad performance, all be it, when we needed it the least, and ignore the utter incompetency of the offense just because of the "well, that's what they usually do" excuse.

I love what one of my friends said after the onside kick failed to start the second half.
"Muschamp should just drop the headset and walk straight over to Pat O's"

Okay, then what do you call a person that bitches a lot?
I'm not bitching..... I'm questioning, in a rational thoughtful way, what went wrong with our preparation to this game.

Muschamp said the right things and I for one believe he intends to correct the problems, and will.
We can analyze this and over-analyze it... we lost. We weren't invested or focused on winning this game, and Louisville was... and Lousiville won. That's it, 'nuff said, tip your hat to the Cardinals, end of story.
At least we lost to Charlie Strong who's a class act coach, and when you think of the melt-down we were having, he probably could have put 40 on us that night if he'd have wanted.
What's done is done. It's over. We lost, Lousiville won, it's history.
But I firmly believe like a few other posters have said that this will only drive Muschamp harder and that the motivation and focus of this team will go through the roof in the off-season.

Yes it will. Look at what we did this year as a result of last year.

Well, games back in those days consisted of gladiators and lions. Jesus was probably NOT a fan.

The defense got smoked as the Ville only punted one time. The defense played well all year Bridgewater was too good for us. The offense needs receivers and will be better next year if receivers step forward.
