We all need some therapy after last night...sheesh. I voted UL. Not because I'm down on the Gators. I just don't see how suddenly we cover their receivers, Driskel gets better, and the line suddenly can block rushers in two weeks. Oh yeah, and their QB gets crummy. Eliminate the turnovers it would be close. But we didn't learn that after the rivalry game with Ga, that tells me skills need to be developed, discipline need to be learned before execution works. Also, sometimes match-ups are tough, for some weird reason it's awkward for even the better team. How about all those games with Auburn? We were clearly the better team. But not when you looked at the scoreboard after the games. Weird shaped ball... strange things happen. Could be sunspots, solar flares, Gator gas...

Lesson learned for Muschamp: never say you will take this team to play anyone, anywhere, anytime.

They were that night. Under rematch conditions I don't think they could repeat the feat.

This. The OP raises 2 different points...the question is about a REMATCH for the championship, but the post also questions who the better team is. Certainly, I believe UF would win the rematch. Statistically speaking, you can take it to the bank. If two teams meet twice, the same team will rarely win both games. After you've played once, you know what you have to do. You compensate and you alter your game plan accordingly. You know exactly what they are capable of, what their tendencies are, where they are weak, etc. And of course there's the revenge factor. Now with the Bama-LSU situation last year, you sort of had a different scenario where Bama didn't change the game plan for the 2nd game because there wasn't really a problem with the game plan. The issue was execution (and allowing the FG kicker onto the field...this was really the only coaching decision that was altered for the 2nd game). In the 2nd game, everything was perfectly executed with almost no mistakes, and this time it was a shutout, settling the question of which team was better. If UF executes perfectly last night, what is the outcome? Would that affect the way UL plays and put more pressure on Bridgewater? Would it be enough anyway to control their offense regardless? Idk, hard to say.

I would bet $1,000 that just one play would have changed the way the rest of the original game unfolded. Change the first play of the game to a hand-off to a running back and the Gators might actually win that game. (I know, call me crazy.)

If the two teams came back in two weeks to play the game again, and I would still lay down $1000 that the Gators would not stray from the game plan that won them 11 games, i.e. run first, own the line of scrimmage, play good defense, and they win the rematch. The corners would not back off the Cardinal receivers more and more as the game progressed, and the rest of the defense would not get caught out of position when the Cardinals did a pre-snap shift. In a rematch, the Gators would have adjusted to that and would be in better pre-snap defensive alignment and would remember to jam the receivers, and would win 7 times out of 10.

In a rematch in two weeks, the gators would probably win due to the points raised by AFCyberGator above.

If we were to play the for the *first time* in two weeks, the results would probably be the same as Wed. If we weren't able to get it in gear with a month to prepare, two more weeks wouldn't make any difference.

$1,000 on UF.

Louisville got all the breaks.

If the game was played again things wouldn't fall that way and the better team, UF, woul dmore than likely win.

No hesitation.

UF would win in round 2 but this win certainly helps Louisville get welcomed into the ACC!!!!! Dang glad for them. I posted on a Nole board before the game that I thought Lou had a 25% chance to win hoping that UF was distracted by guys ready to go to the NFL.

Most of the replies I got said Lou had .00001% chance and so forth to win. Anyone who tells you they saw this coming is lying. This is just like this year's FSU loss to NCST. You knew it COULD happen but since FSU had built up some trust you didn't really think it would happen. UF had street cred before this game. They had built up a rep as a tough bunch of hombres and very few expected Lou to be able to handle that.

Of course there would be a different game plan if they played again. And possibly uf would win.
That is what separates the good coaches. The ones who make a good game plan prior to playing the game. Also adjusting during the game for what they are seeing.

My assertion is that the Gators have shown that when they do not get cute with trick plays they are the masters of the in-game adjustment. Just as the pick-6 on the first play of the game was the result of the Gators playing out of character, the on-side kick in the first play of the second half was the result of the Gators playing out of character again.

If Will Muschamp hopped into his way back machine and changed exactly two plays--the first play to a run and the second half kickoff to an actual kick--the Gators would have won at least 7 out of 10 times, probably closer to 9 times out of 10. Heck, just by changing the first play the Gators could have won the game.

Gators would win, and it wouldn't have to be a Nat Championship game. UL played and coached better in this particular game but we "spotted them" a lot of points and opportunities that gave them the game. When we got behind and the clock was not our friend we had to pass and should of gone with Brissett.

I feel confident we would win the re-match for all of the reasons already listed about improving the GamePlan, statistics in rematches, etc.

But, some solid points have been made for us winning if we were to go back to 8:30 on 1/2/13 and start over:
As Minister keeps pointing out, we won the second half. We didn't play well in the second half, by our standards, and we STILL won that half.
As Cecil pointed out, UL got all the breaks. The statistical probability of a pick 6 on the opening play HAS to be very low.
Driskel threw 2 picks in this game. He had what, 3, the entire regular season?
Bridgewater is a good QB. But, what are the chances he is THAT on? He played above his norm against what many considered to be the best overall D in the nation going into the game.
I think Strong had a better GamePlan than UF. But, had UF given its normal performance - not even a really good one - we would still have won.

there is nothing in that game that makes me feel like we would win a rematch.

Only if UF played with a better game plan and better play.

WE got wipped.

I hate "if we played 10 times we would win 8" the only people who say that are losers.

I am still hearing that from FSU fans from earlier this year.

You can blame the lose on all kinds of things but we played the only game that was planned against them and we got our heads handed to us.

Congradulations to CHarlie and his team.

Stanford just did it vs. UCLA. For this question you need to forget all that.

All I am asking is who you'd think would win if both teams played a game where it was vitally important to both of them. In other words, we removed the fact that it was meaningless to the Florida Gators like the Sugar Bowl was.
