I think by 2013 it's probably time to retire the Animal House and Airplane references, or at least not act appalled when someone doesn't recognize them.
Uh, no.
After a disastrous night like last night, some need the humor to keep from pulling our hair out or punching holes in the wall.
this was truly one of the funniest posts I've ever read, from beginning to,,,well, those lines will NEVER die. Too good. Thanks for the levity after the game I watched last night. Perfect!

You mean like Coach Boom's drinking problem?

That's like retiring Beethoven's fifth symphony. It will never happen, and it never should.
Classics are here to stay. And if a guy can't get the "German's bombed pearl harbor" joke, he deserves a little ribbing.
Nope. Classics are what they are and should be used as such. Now go away, or I shall taunt you a second time.....
I knew it was a movie reference, but forgot which one. That film came out over 5 years before I was born...never seen and it and probably will never get around to it.
A related story...I recently interviewed at one of UVa's medical residency programs. The program director showed us some photos, one of which was the front of their medical school. Above the doorway was a sign that read "Medical School." He said it was like Animal House where it said "College." No one laughed (27 other interviewees there) except me because even I got that reference. Everyone else in the room was 25-30 btw.
The only way I found out about that reference was back at UF in '03-'06. Some local bank was giving away a lot of those "College" shirts for students that opened new checking accounts.
Expect more people to not get it as time goes by...my generation surely has not seen that movie in large numbers.
And, as Bluto also wisely said, "My advice to you is to start drinking heavily."
This was excellent advice for last night.
I swapped to cocktails after the failed onside kick to start the 3rd quarter. Good decision, meant atleast I wasn't fuming mad when the game was over. Just kind of whimpered and headed to bed.

On a college football forum? Lack of such knowledge (at least Animal House) is appalling!! Hehe.

If you've been to college and never seen Animal House, well you're missing out.

ok- I don't do it often but I goofed!! I am 61 years old, English Major, mother of 2 UF grads, and saw Animal House only once, when it first came out -- whenever the heck that was -- unfortunately I do not have the lines memorized as my kids do -- still and all, it should have rung a bell -- my fault !! --but you know what, if I inadvertently brought a laugh to everyone on what was kind of a sorry evening, then I guess all was not lost ..Go Gators
