these guys practice without fans. they should be able to play with or w/o them. using the fans were not there argument, then they should not play well at most away games. we are clearly outnumbered there.

Really? Not all of us can buy Christmas for family and then shell out $$ for hotel and tickets.

Gator fans were as enthused about facing Louisville as Gator players were.

Gator fans don't travel well? I never thought that. Most SEC, well SEC football schools, travel very well.
I understand what the OP is saying, I was thinking the same, the 12th-man didn't do their part. Yeah, yeah, the fan's don't throw interceptions, miss tackles, get penalties, etc. but looking at the whole picture the 12th man could have helped us win the game. It was well covered the weeks leading up to the game how the gators had not sold their allotment of tickets, right? The coaches were trying to get the players to buy-in to the importance/relevance of this game, I'm sure some of those young 18-20 year-old kids were thinking, "Important? Yeah right, our fans aren't even interested in this game." Surely, that thought pattern affected how they practice and played. Also, all of us have seen players standing on the sideline waving towels and waving arms to get the fans to yell & transfer their energy to the field of play, right? We didn't have a strong fan base last night to transfer enough energy to the field to help the D pitch a few 3 & out defensive stops, and help Driskell & company play up to, and possibly beyond, their potential. So did the fans cause the lost last night, naw, absolutely not. But the fans could have helped the team win last night....

The day Gator fans are excited about playing Louisville on a Wednesday night is the day we know the program is in trouble

ESPN calling out fans for not attending bowl games is a joke.
They're the reason this game took place on Wed. Jan 2nd. Personally, just couldn't split up the entire week like that and make the game - post New Year's Day.
ESPN makes bowls made for tv events, then points out when fans take them up on it. Screw that hypocrisy.

We should have had a better showing. But I did not go. Couldn't justify the money. So I can't preach.
I think its epidemic in the bowl dynamic now. Lousy match ups mean no attendance

Agreed. And I'd argue that the day we lose - badly! - to Louisville on a Wednesday night is also the day we know the program is in trouble, but that's debatable.

It was like a frickin' Louisville home game, Gator Nation didn't show up, and neither did the Gator Team.

This, you shift from two decades of wide open SEC re-defining offenses to an offense modeled on the big 10's 3 yards and a cloud of dust philosophy and its going to hurt turnout.

Yeah cause clearly playing for a 12-1 record and a No.2 ranking in the polls isn't a big enough deal.

i think some of you are taking the original post a little too literal.
i think the message he was trying to convey is how can we complain about the players not caring when the fans didn't care either.
i think he has a bit of a point.

(Count me in the latter group).
2006 was my Senior year and I cobbled all the money I had (which was none), missed some days of classes, etc to get to Arizona for the game since I knew it was such a rare opportunity. Perhaps thats how Louisville fans felt.

Louisville now has two BCS bids in last six years and will be an easy favorite for Big East next year. I don't think the "we will never be here again" is why their fans showed up. I agree with the previous poster that some fans don't want to watch us play snoozefest football. That's the way it goes.

Fans never cause a team to win or lose, we just like to think we do.
Sugar Bowl attendance 54,178.
So far all the bowl games have had less than stellar attendance except for the Rose (Wisc/Stan), which was only 93,359. The Orange listed 72,073 (NIU/FSU), but I don't remember seeing a packed house on TV. The Chick-Fil-A bowl had 68,027 (Clemson/LSU), the Alamo bowl had 65,277 (Texas/Oregon St). Cap One had 59,712 (UGA/Neb), Outback 54,527 (USC/Mich), Holiday Bowl 55,507 (Bay/UCLA), and Gator Bowl 48,612 (MSU/NW).
There sure are a lot of fans that caused their team lose this bowl season.
