Yeah, like every play they had to face Teddy Bridgewater.

They were overmatched.

Worst thread ever.

We gave up 330 yards, 23 first downs, 33 points after a pick 6, fumble on the 2 and the onsides debacle at the 20.

By any measure, compared to other teams, we've played fine. On what planet is 330 yards and 20 points (to the D) is a bad performance?

Many, many, many other bowl games had far worse defensive performances.

If this was our worst since 95, then we've must have been consistently elite since then.

I'm not saying we played well, but I just don't know what you guys expect.

330 yards would put us around 15th in the nation as compared to average total yards. And correctly attributing some points to the O, that would put us about 5 points given up higher than normal. Still way above average.

Do you expect excellence every single game against every single style of opponent?

Exactly! The DLine did it's job. I couldn't believe how completely inept Purifoy and Watkins were. Completely overmatched; how can that happen??...Left me speechless to see how often their WR's were totally wide open on 3rd downs. No one within 10 yards. Keep in mind though, they started their first two drives of the 2nd half at our 19, and 4 and got 6 points. Louisville completely deserved to win and they should be congratulated. Also this wasn't even arguably our worst defensive performance this year. TAMU and UT were both remarkably similar to this game from a D standpoint.

Both games against Bama in 99 were trainwrecks.

To score 39 points at home and lose I don't think has ever happened.

We took Louisville lightly, like UF did with Notre Dame in the 1992 Sugar Bowl. When we're unmotivated, we lose.

Yup, it had the look of some of Spurrier's Sugar Bowl teams.

Yep, we stunk it up on scheming/coaching for this game. Rule number one if the opposing team has a runner QB that can also throw it, we need to run-blitz his a$$ mercilessly.

Instead we sat around and let him pick us apart.

Nebraska was one of the all time best teams in NCAA football. This was bad.

The defense wasn't that bad. Bowl games often skew one's view of a D since there is so much time for an offense to prepare for them, unlike the regular season. But the defense was quite fortunate this year to face Johnny Football during his first game, SC essentially without Lattimore and LSU without them using Jeremy Hill much that game. It made us look better than we were on D.

Often it's not who you play but when you play them that matters.

When the game was on the line (which wasn't really very long), Bridgewater absolutely carved us up. Louisville was able to put it in idle early in the second half. They could have hung 50 on us had they needed to.

So key. I was preaching that all season. In the end, the schedule (all though with many tough teams) was favorable for us when you consider the timing. We caught some breaks. The Georgia game was the only one of our very tough games that was bad timing with respect to our schedule.

I don't think so because in that game Chad Henne was making some NFL-caliber throws, and those WRs were making unbelievable catches all over the field. It was just crazy. Last night, we were just leaving people open on every play.

What is hard is that both teams had the same amount of extended time to game plan. Almost as if the Gators D was guessing all night with no answer. Granted TB had a great night, but S. Watson put on a clinic against Quinn, etc from a playcalling standpoint.

In the first half they put together 4 6+ minute scoring drives on our defense.

...when our offense is operating in the top 50 or better, we'll be fine. That means they basically need to get twice as good as they are now. Translation: they have a bit of work to do. Until that time, unless we play MISTAKE FREE BALL, we can expect to lose more games. We can't come from behind enough with our current offensive production. We managed it a few times, but, ya just can't expect to do it all the time. Well, you can expect it, but that's being delusional. As soon as we can run better, block better and pass and catch better, we'll be contenders.

Reminded me of the 05 Bama game when we went to Tuscaloosa as #5 and lost 31-3, at least in terms of how it felt watching the game.

May not be the worst D game but ranks right up there. Want facts, how about one punt for the entire frickin game. How about long sustained drives eating up clock?? After they saw what a pathetic O we had, all they needed to do was keep the chains moving, eat clock and play careful as in not giving up a turnover. When we HAD to have stops we couldn't. The only real bright spots were 2, pushing them back from our goal line and the deflection interception. If you can't see that our D sucked basically the entire game than I am truly amazed. Crap, our lbs were confused much of the time with their formations, we had tons of missed assignments, we had rbs roaming free without a defender anywhere in sight. It was AWFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I guess what I should have said was worst performance verses expectations.
