Losing is better motivation than winning
How excited would you have been if we were Sugar Bowl Champs?
Yeah -- thrilling.
How ticked are you that we lost? Probably as much as me.
Don't see a lot of patting each other on the backs all offseason now.
Think we just waltz in and beat Miami? You better believe they want to beat us as bad a Louisville wanted to tonight.

A poor performance in a win would have probably set us back.
On the other hand, if we showed up tonight and played well and won, it would have been a nice springboard towards next season. I can't see where that would have hurt us.
Time to make lemonade out of lemons.

I actually think this lose is good for us. I think this young team comes in next year and works hard and gets it done! Don't get me wrong I want to win also every game! But who gives a S about the Sugar Bowl?

You are right. This game is a great motivator. These players were embarrassed. If WM is a great coach, he will turn this into a 13-game motivation next season.
Having a #1 recruiting class won't hurt, either!

This team relied on our D all year, and they couldn't do it tonight. We can't win in a shootout.

I find that hard to believe. If true, I would think WM would need to continue with his house cleaning.

HArd to tell what the kids thought... I know this we've got to get some receivers and JD needs to learn to step up in the pocket by next year..... We've also got to learn to defend the pass much better.

Burn the tapes, bury them outside the practice facility, cover with a big ole rock, and make the players touch it every day. (Sound familiar, anyone?)

Chuck Pell did that after a very bad Peach Bowl loss to West Virginia in 82.

Sometimes losing is a bitter pill to swallow, but it can make your grow in ways winning can't. I have been worried these guys would not have the extra edge in the offseason. I don't have that worry anymore. Yeah it sucks losing, especially when you get clobbered like that, but there is no doubt it can have a silver lining.
Watch Rocky III to be reminded of one of life's timeless lessons. Sometimes you've got to be hungry.
