When you don't see a good passer in practice how do you prepare for one?

Yeah but I was trying to keep it on topic.

OK seriously, enough whistling past the graveyard. We got punked by a Big East team on national TV. The issue is not that the defense celebrated after making good plays. The issue is that they made way too few of them.

Now the last part I can agree with. Muschamp won't stand for this and his recruiting is speaking for itself. We are definitely headed in the right direction.

I remember Alex Brown yanking a teammate by the neck in a game at UF when we were behind by a couple TDs after the player was acting foolish for making a fairly big hit after like a 20 yard gain and we were behind. Anyone remember that? That's what I'm talking about. Focus, get your ass in gear and celebrate when it is appropriate.

I would say coaches can have control over this by benching a player that does it but if they do that, they won't be able to field a team as almost every player at some point during the game does it...being a Jags fan, this is the one thing I like about Mularkey...after a Jag player scores a TD, he has a rule where if the player does not immediately give the ball back to ref and head to the sideline he pays a certain amount of money...its almost like he is fining himself and i guess he hopes his players through their conscience for him, will refrain...luckily for him, he didnt have to worry about it too much this year ....but bottom line, its just a cool little tactic he uses to refrain from celebrating on the field...

Actually that's what this thread is about.

GO GATORS
[edit]
Like how would you want this addressed?
CWM stand up at the beginning of the season and says "guys if we happen to be getting our butts kicked dont celebrate a good play, but if we are up 30 you can act like a bunch of wild animals"?
|
I'd give the last argument up. You just don't get it.

I know that's what this thread is about. My point is it's a dumb topic. Who cares if and when the defensive players celebrated? As a fan the thing to worry about is that they got their asses kicked by a less-physically-talented team, not the fact that they got excited after the 2 or 3 good plays they made. Total non-issue in the grand scheme of things.

True but there's already a thousand threads about that. The issue here was celebrating while we're getting our asses handed to us. If we had done like we all wanted us to do, this thread wouldn't have been started in the first place. The point here is you don't celebrate as much as they did when they couldn't stop anything all night; well except the run but you get my point. That's like Cam doing his superman routine while losing by 30. Makes no sense.

I disagree, it speaks to the lack of awareness and lack of focus for the task at hand, getting the offense off the field. Focus on what's important, the team and not you. The team is getting killed

I'm not a big fan of all the after the play is over chicken feed nonsense. The constant yapping, bumping, pointing, struting around like a rooster or peacock and all around thuggery behavior. Just do your job well and then act like it's not your first rodeo and you've been there before and then get ready for the next play.

I agree - focus on what's important. Celebrating after a big play even when you're losing badly? Not important. Losing badly to a team from a second-tier conference? Important.

I brought this very topic up on Steve Russell's show after one of our wins earlier in the season, maybe after the USCe game... Specifically Easley and his "look at me antics" have driven me crazy since he stepped foot on campus. I even asked Steve if Easley still carried that damn Chuckie doll with him during the Gator Walk.
We were getting handled and yet we all had to put up with #2 flexing his muscles every other play. Make a play like Clowney did!
Just to be clear, these antics weren't why we lost. They did make us look silly though. This type of disciplined play added fuel to the flame.
Still a great season, be happy we were in a BCS game Gator Nation. We are on our way to being "back!"

I think one reason is because this was their last college game. Next year they'll be playing with Men.
