In Florida, if you are the first to stop for a traffic light at an intersection and are going to turn left, and a car coming the other way stops after you do and is not going to turn but go straight ahead, which one has the right of way when the light turns green?

Thanks. I was confused, because it seems like half the time the other car will wait for me to turn. So I finally start to turn, just as the other car starts forward. We both stop, then start, then stop. I'm waiting for the driver in the other car to get out and start shooting at me.

Correct. A full green at a left turn lane means you are permitted to turn left but must yield to opposing traffic.

the mutcd (manual uniform traffic control design guidelines) recommends that a left turn yield on green sign be displayed next to the light but some muni's do not want them. I put them on my plans anyway and the muni can choose not to install but I am covered if ever subpoened. hate doing traffic signal design but since resort development business is in the crapper, we do what we can to feed the kids and keep the lights on.

When it comes to driving these days with all the distractions (cell phones, eating, putting on make up, etc) what a driver SHOULD do is far from what a driver DOES do....
