"We can't cut our way to prosperity"
says President Obama. But apparently he thinks we can tax and spend our way to prosperity as he vows more tax increases.
Quote:
|
We can’t simply cut our way to prosperity. Cutting spending has to go hand-in-hand with further reforms to our tax code so that the wealthiest corporations and individuals can’t take advantage of loopholes and deductions that aren’t available to most Americans. And we can’t keep cutting things like basic research and new technology and still expect to succeed in a 21st century economy. So we’re going to have to continue to move forward in deficit reduction, but we have to do it in a balanced way, making sure that we are growing even as we get a handle on our spending . . .

We can neither solely cut our way to prosperity (which would cause an immediate, large negative impact on the economy) nor tax our way there.
We need a short-term mix of both (which we really didn't get), followed by a long-term plan to keep spending below receipts to decrease taxes and the deficit.

No, we do not need tax increases of any sort to ensure continued prosperity. And gradual cuts (really the only kind being proposed) would not plunge people's lives into oblivion.

Complicated issue with complicated solutions. Right there, we've probably exceeded the capabilities of congress and this President. They want simple solutions, political points, delay of pain and more revenue/borrowing to spend more and more.

Obama is disingenuous when you says this because it's not about cutting our way to prosperity. It's about cutting to live within our means.

Of course it changes it and you are too smart to not understand that. Why did you choose to leave it out?

Let's face it, we have a Deficit Outside Our Means (DOOM).

Obama didn't immigrate from Kenya (or Indonesia) tutor under commies and extremists, get himself walked into Columbia and Harvard Law with substandard academics and a little "assistance", work 12 whole months at a mainstream law firm and spend the next few years extorting money from government and business to CUT SPENDING. That is not part of the Manifesto of cutting Amerika down to size.

I guess 51% percent of Americans are communists then as they just re-elected him instead of a bunch of hypocritical, gun-loving, bible-thumping bigots.
Go figure.

Easy...when you have 3 wolves and 3 chickens decide what will be for dinner, guess who wins 100% of the time. And taxpayers are the chickens. Freeloaders are the wolves.

I was copy and pasting a headline.
But the first definitions of "simply" mean
1a : without ambiguity : clearly
1b : without embellishment : plainly
1c : directly, candidly
Yes, I understand a secondary definitions mean "only." And that is what you hang your hat on. My goodness at the gullibility of our electorate.
But back to the point at hand. Obama, as usual, reveals his nature. He really, honestly thinks a country can tax and spend their way to prosperity. He does not think that government spending is ever a problem. He is acting according to his nature. And that is more and more government spending and more and more taxes.
Name one meaningful spending cut he has enacted? Or even suggested?
One cannot be named.
