Default Parsons 3rd best NBA sophomore

http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/story...d-year-players

ESPN Insider article by David Thorpe on the best second-year players in the NBA. He's got Kyrie Irving first, Kenneth Faried second, and Chandler third.

Quote:
Parsons gets the award for the most unlikely guy to appear so high on this list. For three years at Florida, he mostly slept-walked through games relative to his talent. But winning player of the year in the SEC as a senior proved to him that he could excel in a league of athletes, and he has not slowed down since. Parsons had an impressive rookie campaign, and he is better basically everywhere on the floor now for the fast-paced Rockets. Parsons often plays like a shutdown wing defender, but he is not yet strong enough to do it nightly. His ability and size allows him to excel often as a power forward and his improved free throw shooting, willingness to move the ball and good ball-handling for someone so tall makes him a real plus on the offensive end. These skills and physical talents combine into a long-time NBA starter.
I agree that he'll be a starter for a long time to come. Houston has a strong group of young players to build around with Harden, Parsons, Asik, and Lin. Lin needs to show more consistency, but he has been playing much better lately. They need Morris to develop at the 4 or find someone to replace him. They are definitely one of my favorite teams in the league now.

Not saying he is wrong but Thorpe is a huge gator homer.

Yeah he can be a bit but of all things I don't think he likes billy all that much for some reason

No matter where you rank him, he was the steal of the draft. Most 2nd round picks don't even make the team.

Unfortunately in hindsight he signed a horrendous contract. At the time when it was not clear he would make the team it was pretty good. However now he is probably the biggest bargain in the league. Good for Houston bad for chandler.

Even after reading all this it seems to me that Houston would be wise to seriously consider renegotiating the 4th year of Parsons contract sometime next year. I would expect him to go full steam on free agency if they don't.

Can't agree with that.
