Default all time bowl records for all major conference teams

Some of these are pretty surprising. eg Nebraska, Michigan, Ohio State and Notre Dame all have losing bowl records......none of the original 10 charter members of the SEC have a losing bowl record....all 4 of the programs added since then have losing bowl records.

By Conference

The Big 10 is 5-9. They were 3-9 before the most recent expansion

The PAC is 6-6

The ACC is 7-7

The Big 12 is 5-5

The SEC is 10-4 with all of the original 10 having winning records and none of the expansion teams having a winning bowl record.

We should have a better W/L record than the likes of FSU, Auburn, Boston College & Utah.

Glad that Meyer & Muschamp treated these games important.

Just for the record there were 13 charter members of the SEC. Tulane is the only one with a losing bowl record. Sewanee never played a bowl game so they are 0-0.

We knew what you meant though, the 10 remaining original charter members.

I can't believe we're only 20 -19... And Michigan, OSU, and Nebraska all have losing records too.

Being a big name means you get picked for better bowls, which can lead to playing against tougher teams and thus more losses.

Theoretically being around .500 makes sense. These aren't random matchups but instead matchups against teams that are supposed to be fairly even. Thus you see the PAC, ACC and Big 12 all having an equal number of teams with winning and losing bowl records.

The outliers are the SEC which has way more winners and the Big 10 which has way more losers.

and in addition to Michigan, Ohio State and Nebraska, another big name with a losing bowl record is Notre Dame. Bama and Southern Cal have gaudy winning bowl records.

Interesting. Looks like USC has the best winning percentage? Oklahoma, Bama, and uga are also quite good. A little surprised uga's is as good as it is.

I was wondering why Notre Dame's bowl record was such as it was...prior to the 90's they were THE PROGRAM. After some research....

"In his first year the Irish improved their record to 9–1, earning Parseghian coach of the year honors and a cover story in Time magazine. It was under Parseghian as well that Notre Dame lifted its 40-plus year-old "no bowl games" policy, beginning with the season of 1969, after which the Irish played the #1 Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl Classic, losing in the final minutes in a closely contested game. The following year, Parseghian's 9–1 squad ended Texas' Southwest Conference record 30 game winning streak in the 1971 Cotton Bowl Classic."

That answered my question. They should have had the most bowl games played by far and I never knew they had some weird self imposed bowl ban. Way weird.

For a long time the Big 10 had an idiotic policy that only allowed the champ to go to the Rose Bowl and nobody else could go to a bowl game....and I think there was even some ridiculous nonsense about the same team not being allowed to go twice in a row or something like that.

It made no sense and it cost the schools a lot of money-as well as costing their fans a chance to get the hell out of the Midwest at the end of December which is something any sane person who has ever spent so much as a single Winter in the Midwest knows is vital for maintaining their sanity....all driven by misguided and outdated idiocy from the professional Academics on campuses but...that's what they did....in other words, the Big 10 has always been hidebound and backwards.

33 of their 49 bowl games have basically been home games since they played in the Rose Bowl 33 times. Its a lot easier to stay at home and play than it is to travel across the country.

For a period of time the Big 12 wouldn't allow their champ to go the the Orange Bowl in back to back seasons. A different team would be sent.

Based upon the records listed, here are the conference W/L%
1st Pac12 - 52.25
2nd SEC - 52.22
3rd ACC - 51.13
4th Big12 - 50.00
5th Big10 - 47.35

Way to go Vandy. Worst AQ team in college football history, although do have back to back bowls now.

I come up with different numbers

SEC 236-215 = 52.33%
PAC 151-138 = 52.25%
ACC 181-173 = 51.13%
Big 12 134-134 = 50.00%
Big 10 161-179 = 47.35%
